i have just has a look at one of these laptops and it looks like the button is to enable and disable the mouse pad, i am not sure what the point of this is. i would guess its if you wanted to use a usb mouse.

when playing a game that uses the mouse and keyboard, as your hand uses the keyboard it can move the mouse cursor using the touchpad, I disable the touchpad all the time when playing a game now.
