Just a small query!
I bought a Foxconn MoBo some time ago along with a case and cpu and Memory (ready built) from Novatech.....No problems with quality or anything else. But I had serious trouble trying to load Windows 98se.....The OS loaded OK! But would crash continually.
Before you ask, I loaded all MoBo/Graphics/Sound etc drivers, and as I build many systems for other people, I do know what I am about.
Your Tech support was very good! But it couldn't solve the problem, and I ended up having to ask the person who was having the system to buy XP Home, which I then installed with no problems!
By the way I tried a clean install of 98se three times before I gave up! I now avoid Foxconn like the plague, and stick with ASUS.
Any ideas?

Please note that support for Windows98 on hardware is decreasing and providing support and working drivers for 98 is getting harder.
Please provide details of your specfication of your complete build.

Foxconn isn't that great, personally I stick to top-brand main components.

with regards to the 98SE not loading properly, could you give us your full system specs please

If your foxcon board is based on one of the new motherboard chips (to put it simply) then you will not be able to get windows 98 to load on it.windows 98 is seen to be an old OS so manufacturers are rightly making boards that do not support the older OS.
this may be an inconvienience to you, but tbh, 98 is an old program, soon everyone will be going to vista, thats what........3-4 stages infront of 98

Having more than 512Mb of RAM installed is a common cause of that problem. If that is the case then there are ways round it but upgrading to XP, as you have done, is really the best option.

Greets all
Personally, if your going to build a machine, try and stay away from *budget* brands, especially if your using older operating systems.
Try and stick with the main 4-5 brands such as:
MSI
ASUS
A-Bit
Giga-byte

The likes of ECS, FoxConn and other smaller (offering cheaper boards)brands are originally aimed at the business market, and thus aren't always good for home based PC's.

Rule of thumb
1. research what your going to buy, don't just go by price and availability.
2. If it doesn't have a good website, you may not get good support when things go wrong.
3. Google is your friend (combined with no.1 to look for any problems that may have been found by othe users with the kit of your choice)

Surely not? I always thought Elite/ECS/PC Chips were the height of quality in the motherboard world...

Hmmm

i did almost putthem in, but remembering the posts i used to read about instability at high O/c's, and thattheir relatively new (last coupe of years like Foxconn and some others) decided not to.

Not having any prior knowledge for their current stuff, i kept me gob shut 8)

Better to not make assumptions than make a **** of one'self by speaking out of turn, yes?

I wouldnt knock Foxconn. They are a cheap board as they provide whats needed in a basic board and nothing fancy. They actually make the parts for the boards mentioned in all the other posts. My Abit Fatal1ty board has Foxconn parts on it.
They also make some good graphics cards in the name of Leadtek.
They made the best 6600GT,(the extreme) which was factory overclocked @550/1100,and still went higher!
Theyre not a budget outfit, they just aim for the budget market.
Most Novatech and other builders use them in their `off the shelf `pc`s,(although Ive noticed there are no more socket 939 boards for sale in the motherboard section)
So,now ive done my caped cruisader bit,im off into the night! ; )

The reason your Abit has Foxconn parts is this.
Before Foxconn went into the game of actual main pc item manufacture (boards and complete pcs), they have for the last 20+years been a components and other non electronic items only maker.

Says it all here mate, complete listing for the company since their inception in 1974 as a plastics manufacturer.

I already said they made the parts for other boards

Yup you did, i just pointed out that they had not always been a maker of boards, but had roots in other non electronic items before they made the leap from components to complete boards.

Wasn't forgetting what you put, meerly being informative.
