The excitement surrounding Windows 7 reminds me of the Longhorn and Whistler days, with Online communities abuzz, desperate to try Alpha and beta builds as soon as they appear.

I'm sure many of you here have tried or maybe considered trying the Windows 7 Release Candidate. Build 7134 isn't much different to the RC build, however some are reporting improved performance and a few bug fixes.

I thought you might like to see some screenshots!

I dont see the point in having to reinstall Windows 7 just to get the newer build. It really does suck...

Do you have to? Will it not allow the update option like XP -> Vista?

stick to windows xp pro. The best operating system windows has made tbh.
I've tried vista and windows 7 and rate them poor at best, performance wise they suck and way way way to glitzy for my liking and a huge drain on CPU and gfx power before u even start gaming

Huge drain on your CPU and gfx power before you start gaming? That's total bs.

Was on mine, then again i was running it with an athlon64 3200 and 8600gt
Found games to run smoother and faster with xp compared to 7 and vista

mate.....look at your rig, of course vista has no hope, W7 will perform slightly better.... you need at least 3gb of on board RAM for happy operation (due to the way these two Operating systems allocate RAM, W7 is not as much of a hog but it still works better with more of it)

and for the statement that it drains GPU & CPU power before you even start gaming all i can do is .....LMAO!! :OMG:

your the last of a dying breed my friend, even most staunch XP users have finally seen the light & accepted both of these OSes are better than XP, the only place XP is really appreciated now is in offices when they finally upgrade from WIN98 or DOS.., yes its served us well, but its high time ppl stop bad mouthing Vista & W7 b/c in reality (rig permitting) there is NO REASON not to upgrade.... compatibility is a thing of the past, as are bugs, crashes & BSODs....

im out.....

i still preffer xp over them. I'm one for tidyness and i hate over clutter, i like clean cut. Vista is like a wonna be glamor girl wearing wayy too much makeup. Windows 7 is slightly better but i just dont like the way it works, just something about it.
My new system runs a bit better but games still fall a bit which is why i will stick to xp. I like it and am content with it.
Maybe when they bring a few more updates to windows 7 ill upgrade but i think i will probably be on linux by then.

@ johnckeenI disagree, simply because it's about 'moving on'. Vista and Windows 7 are bound to demand more of your Computer, same as every newly released Windows Operating System has done in the past.

Try Installing Windows XP on Pentium 166Mhz with 64 Ram and tell me how fast it boots.

Windows 7 manages performance well, even if it looks as though its using a lot of RAM, it still performs brilliantly and the same can also be said for Vista.

As for Vista appearing cluttered. Disable the Sidebar, if you want you can even turn off the Aero Interface and use the Aero Basic theme. It looks like XP with a new theme pretty much.

Im using XP now, simply because i cant be bothered to install all my programs again. Im getting a new computer in the summer, and i will be putting the W7 RC on there, and upgrading to the full version around christmas time

Its still more hassle that its worth. Cant they just integrate it with Windows Update?

I will need to update to that build. Right now I am happy with Windows 7 build 7100 :)

RC1 is stable enough for me so far.

As for people who don't rate it, I ask you to remember win7 is currently still a BETA. And as far as I'm concerned with regards to memory/performance/features etc (Neglecting driver issues as that is NOT a windows problem) 7 is just as fast as XP and a **** of a lot less of a resource hog compared to Vista. Yes vista was too heavy, now things have been sorted out things are much better.

Every time I go back to XP it feels so dated and is missing features I use all the time.

Agreed, im glad i moved to vista as its a much better os than XP is now. Granted XP is still good but its miles behind what vista now is.

This isn't true anymore, with the introduction of DX10 and more performance enhancements, vista is better for gaming. When it first came out, it was really bad, but now with all the upates its a bit better.
Its funny, there's always an uproar before a new operating system comes out, theres always something wrong. And then a few months later everyone thinks its better than the original!

Hmm. I only use Windows 7 x64 because of the 64-Bit and better RAID Support...

Exactly. When XP first came out there was uproar that it was unstable, used too much resources and wasn't going to cut it. Post SP2 it worked out well.

Problem with Vista is that it runs dog slow on any system as it hogs the hard disk. I run WIndows 7 now and love it. So much quicker than Vista and my hard disk isn't continually being thrashed. I work for an IT consultancy and we have upgraded some of the laptops to Windows 7 RC as a test and they run much better too. Vista bogs them down and getting into windows takes ages for the hard disk to calm down.

i'm currently on xp simply because i can't afford to upgrade, bought an xp disk 4 years ago, still using the same OS, i'm getting an extra2gb RAM, a Quad and possibly a **** new DX11 card when they come out, so i'll buy Windows 7 because i can at the same time upgrade to 64bit
