Just wondering what's going on with the price of memory at the moment! It's been going up in price every time I've checked it over the last couple of months and it's very nearly gonna cost me £100 to get another Gb of RAM. Anyone know the reason for the increasing prices?

Novatechs have gone up by about a tenner since i lasdt looked. 512 gb novatech ram was around £28, now £38. 1gb was £50 now £70!!!
Btw whats the difference in performance between novatech ram and corsair/ocz/kingston? why are thos 3 much more expensive than novatechs? and what is the best make to get :D

Not much, just better quality, so will OC better/run with less errors/be more likely not to have an issue with the board it gets seated into etc etc
Novatech is just unbranded sticks made at a place where it can be done cheaper due to lower standards or whatever other reason.
Half the time its the same *site* thats making the OCZ/Corsair or whatever, just done for a budget cost, using slightly poorer grade silicon or lower standards when they silicon is doped to form the circuits, and as such isn't as good. hmm, i could go round and round in circles here and get the feeling that no one will understand me.

lmao, so in short, about the same but just a little bit poorer build quality. so would it be better for me to have a well known brand in my new gaming pc than novatech ram?

Branded memory has got better timings which games use.
The better the timings the better the gaming experience will be :D

Basically. I'm not saying that the novatech ram is ****, i'm just saying its manufactured to guidelines rather than above those lines.
It will still perform and do its job, it just doesn't have the stigma of a big brand name.
branded memory also tends to be compatible with everything where non-branded does have issues with some things, sometimes, under certain circumstances. Fortunately Novatechs returns policy on memory is pretty good! Let my wife swap out some generic for corsair for her mac a while back.
But for the sake of a few quid, i'll take the branded right away.

so, what about the price rise?
dont ask here, email the memory makers and ask them why its going up.
or look to see if there have been any bad earthquakes destroying $$billions of chips :D

I remember reading some time ago, memory is pretty much treated as a commodity on the Markets similar to the way Gold & Oil are.
Useless info (http://www.sharkyextreme.com/guides/WMPG/article.php/3636811)
With the release of new CPU's etc demand for it is probably quite high. Wait a while & its bound to come back down again.

I read something about the rise a month or so ago. Can't remember what it said.
Probably poor yields or an earthquake.

remember that your board has to be compatable with these modules otherwise they wont work
and yea, they arent too shabby, always look at review also before buying anything :D
and also look at peoples feedback on them by doing a simple google search

ive read an article that windows rating tool rates a 1Gb system 4.5 while a 4GB system is rated 4.1, so that means that 1Gb is better than 4 GB on a memory hogging OS????

Not for games though! ive got 1GB on my system atm and BF2 + Fear run like **** on low. actually its BF2 that runs like ****, fear isnt that bad once u mess around with the settings. Funny really as its a more demanding game. Shows how **** the BF2 engine really is lol

Bf2 is a system hog, you will be lucky to get very few jutters in that game
especially online, some people have the worst pings

BF2 is a ****** for memory hogging.
when I play, I have TS2 running so I can talk with my mates independant of VoiP in game.
When I exit the game, can take me upto 5 minutes for my system to respond normally again (eg, allow me to shut the frakking TS2 off so I can log off or do something else)
Having 2gb or less, won't make much of a difference, its still a hog either way.

i run only 1Gb at the moment
runs fine, i use a prog called "free RAM XP pro" and it clears the RAM quickly and makes the game close down quicker :P

its not as much as you though. im only 17 and i used to get 140 a month, now i get 360 a month, so unlike everone else i dont pay taxes or none of the other stuff. so i can spend it all on what i want :)

The best memory is the corsair dominator stuff, even comes with its own cooling system!! It is however ludicrously priced... You can pick up 4GB of really good stuff for the same price as 2GB of that almost!
so... what sort of memory do you want? do you want to over clock? are you running a conroe? in which case you won't need anything above PC6400, what sort of conroe, what speeds can it run?
too many variables... start narrowing it down and we can probably advise a little better.
Good memory tho - G.Skill 6400HZ's - same micron D9 chips as the £300 stuff, but will cost you around £200, will go to 1000Mhz without too much problem (with volts!)

Lmao this going rather offtopic now. Anyway my pc will be as follows:
Core 2 Duo E6600 or 6700 ( havent quite decided )
ASUS P5W64 WS Pro
ATi/AMD R600 OR Nvidia 8800GTX
WD Raptor 150GB
600W PSU
I dont want to pay anything over £200 for memory coz that rather ridiculous i think. Also it has to be no less than 2GB of the stuff :)
And i wont be overclocking because i dnt know wtf to do lol. Stock speeds will be fine with those specs i think!
