View Full Version : BT bringing 20mbps
Hi,
I've seen links plastered over the internet about BT introducing 20mbps to over 500 of their exchanges, however I can't see anything at all on BT. Also I read that it will only go to the first 40% of the customers who apply.
Thanks

Don't use BT Internet. They are evil.
Search for "Phorm" to find out why...

i always thaught the maximum copper cable can bring is 20Mbit, so thats why they have the 16Mbit package, to ensure there is no strain on thier network? might be wrong

The max is 24Mb on ADSL2+ copper. 24Mb download, with 1.3Mb upload. Then its approximately 20Mb if Annex M is utilised as the upload speed uses some of the download frequencies for the extra upload speed. So if theres Annex M it would be, ~20Mb download, 3Mb Upload.
Its funny how BT are upgrading to ADSL2+ equipment which many other ISP's already have had for many years, such as TalkTalk and Be*. They should have gone straight into the deep end and gone for fibre... they are lagging behind a lot.

Its the cost of Fibre is why BT has not gone into the deep end, if BT could get a good profit margin from a fibre network investment they would do it.

I live about half a mile from the exchange and struggled to to get 1mb never mind 2. Switched to o2 and went straight to 6mb go figure. BT throttle the bandwidth on all non-premium accounts, between 4 and 12 each night, ask the BBC, they got throttled too on iplayer. BT are useless and am I glad I ditched em.

although its about time they did... VM are going to become the only ISP if they dont.
with 200Mb testing from VM and 50Mb ATM, BT's speeds are just getting out run.
:hail: Praise The Fibre.

I don't see cable coming here any time soon. Whoever I use will be limited by the BT copper wire.

I've got a 24Mb connection over a BT line as my local exchange has been LLU'd through a local ISP called Newnet :bounce:

Fibre is as cheap if not cheaper than copper these days. The end equipment is more expensive but per GB it is far cheaper.
Companies do not want to invest these days though. The phone network is there and why throw shareholder profits into better infrastructure when you can pay yourself a nice bonus?
