Right ... i bought the winfast K8S755A in a bundle a while back with a stick of 256 ram and a shiny AMD64 3000 ... and i also bought another lovely 256 of ram ...

since ive had it ... ive never got the 2 sticks to run at DDR400 ... they always settle at 333 .... HELP!!!

had a very brief read around ... and it seems i need them both to be single rank (or sided, which they are) and theyre both on the supported memories list for the mobo ...

ive tried different combinations of the rams and sockets to no avail

im at me wits end (which isnt all that far from my wits begginning)

im looking to upgrade to more ram now but i wanna get this sorted first

Thanks in advance

Clem

set the memory to run at T1 and loosen the timings

and again for someone who knows little to nothing about memory timings?

That would be the command rate.

Its not the problem though...

The board is autodetecting 333 not 400. What happens when you only have 1 ram module in?

There was a stage where putting two memory sticks in would reduce the speed they would run at to try and compensate for the extra power draw, or something. I'm wondering if something simila is happening here.

i'll have a look on the web tomorrow if i can pull myself away from NWN2 :D

thanks nox ... that sounds more like the issue, whenever ive touched the memory timings ive not been able to start the machine ... i've now bitten the bullet and bought a matched pair of 512 sticks ... which the motherboard will allow to run at 400mhz (woohoo ... took a bit of switching them about but i got there in the end)

having taken out the old 256's i think the problem is in the Cas Latencies ... one was a 2.5 and the other a 3 ... could that be it?

and finally ... if i try to run 1280mb (using either the 2.5 or the 3) the motherboard runs at 200Mhz!

so ... a slightly altered question

which is better

1024MB at 400mhz

or

1280MB at 200mhz
