I started folding last night 9/06/09, if anyone can let me know the best client or settings, it would be of a great help. At the moment I'm using Version 6.23 is this correct for my system. (see sig) 3hours=about 10% of folding, on the currant project. CPU usage seems low, core 0=35-45%, core 1=5-20%, core 2=3-25%, core 3=0-10%. These figures are only very rough/changing all the time, so its difficult to give any exact #s. To give some idea how rough, I've just noticed core 3=46%. All greek to me, at the moment.
Thanks, erphy.

What client have you got mate?

What is the name of the installation file that you downloaded? That'll tell me what you've got. I "think" you've got the ordinary recommended software.

There are High Performance clients available:
You can run SMP client (for cpu) and also GPU client on your machine. But these are high performance clients, and will use your pc quite heavily. If you want to do that, ask. And I'll guide you through setting them up mate.

OK, that looks fine, but I don't see your name on the league table. -yet. It can take time for the results to show up. ;)

But looking at your log it seems you've got it set up correctly. Give it some time and your name should appear here:
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=91717

If I were you I'd fold with that for a while, so you can get used to it. (For a day or two) Then maybe consider the more powerful clients. But bear in mind that electricity will be used at a much greater rate!

You can run SMP client, and also a GPU client. Your core i7 will produce a lot of points for you with SMP client.

You took the words out of my mouth, "use this for a while & get used to folding before moving on to a more powerful version".
Thanks again.

Hi, could you nudge me in the direction of some info please ? I have one core being used & 3 slackers since upgrading my PC. I'm running Win 7, is that going to be a problem ? Cheers

Don't know about win7 mate. Haven't touched it myself. What client have you installed mate? Sounds like the system tray client...

I have a GPU and a CPU client installed, Client Version 6.23 for both. I have been slacking in production of late, but when I do fire them up the CPU is isn't pulling it's weight methinks, 25% usage.

I've had trouble with the cpu lcient myself. Don't know what's wrong. SO I gave uip on that one. You using the correct SMP client? It's probably not configured correctly. Don't ask me how, because I myslef need to sort out mine too :p:p.

Hey mate, good to have you on the team, the reason why it's not running at full whack on all your CPU cores is that it isn't running in 'SMP' mode.

To change this under the advanced tab, their is a boxed labelled 'additional client parameters' In there type -smp

Then it should switch to SMP mode which will utilise upto 8 physical core iirc :)

Now get folding!

It's bad. I did the above, now when I start it I get a CMD box which closes after 15 seconds, the folding icon in the taskbar, & when the mouse pointer touches it, it has closed & goes.

What you need to do is go into the folder where the F@H data is stored, on my PC it's:-

'C:\Users\Happy\AppData\Roaming\Folding@home-gpu'

Then delete the config file, then doubleclick the F@H icon and enter the details again and you're good to go. I have to do this everything I quit it, and if it's left on pause for a couple of hours.
