New mobo gets through POST and then simply powers down after 30-45 seconds. In BIOS I can see the CPU temperature rise to 85 degrees before powerdown. Vendor assures me it was tested prior to despatch.

Bios shows CPU fan at 2,100 rpm, which is slow. I don't believe the CPU temperature really is 85 degrees - not physically hot enough. Faulty reading?
Ta for the reply.

put your finger on the side of the heat sink and see if it is that hot
May sound silly, but did you put thermal compound on the cpu
And if you did, did you remove the old thermal compound before applying the new stuff

Thanks to all for the advice. I too felt it was a faulty reading, but whatever ...
Novatech provided a 3rd MB (this time a brand new MB bundle) and within two hours I was up and running again. I didn't even have to get grumpy and the sledgehammer is still in the garage! :D
Thanks to you posters but especially to the staff at Novatech. You now have another loyal customer. Way to go - really made my day.
