I have an MS-7005 mb with p4 2.2ghz 512 ram oswinxppro.
The onboard sound stopped working for no apparent reason. I tried everything I could to rectify but to no avail.
So I bought a small cheap soundcard & installed.
6 hours later I still could get no sound. os says card is working ok but still nothing.
Tried card in other pc & is fine. It's got to be something silly I'm missing or is it my mb?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Have you checked that you have the correct device selected in the Control Panel?

To do this, (assuming you are using Windows) Open the Control Panel, select Sounds & Audio devices, then open the Audio Tab. Here you should be able to check that your sound card is selected.

Also check your speakers have power etc.

I've done everything I can think of. Read a lot about the onboard ac97 problem but had no joy with that, so I thought installing the c-media card would sort the prob.
I've been building pc's for about 6 years now & thought I could handle a simple sound card.(Reaches for the lump hammer) :x
I think I'll just put it down to the MSI mobo & wait till i can afford a new one.
Thanks anyhoo, Ben!
