I have recently installed windows 7 x64 on my computer and having a issue where the pc will not enter sleep or hibernation. The hard drives spin down and usb turns off but all the fans stay on and I need to hold the power button to shut down and turn the pc back on. The bios has s3 set.
Specs are intel i7, 6x 2gb ocz 1600MHz, Gigabyte ud5, Corsair 620w. The problem occurs regardless of overclock.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Have you tried reinstalling the graphics drivers?

124MB? Since when have they got so big? (Nvidia). :s
Atleast the Nvidia site is fast, 1.6MB/s.
Same problem.

Isnt there any options in the control panel for sleep and hibernate? it could be a driver issue or check if its a prob with your mobo bios...

Ahhhh. I have this same problem too. Most of the time it sleeps / hibernates but sometimes it doesn't and fans just stay on.
Apparently it is a known bug http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/7d6e04c0-c8f0-4a2f-8d08-da54609476b1

I had this problem, sometimes it would shut down sometimes it wouldn't. Eventually I found it was caused by Power Management settings ...
Go to Device Manager, open each device, right click everything you find and select Properties then check if there's a Power Management tab and make sure the box IS ticked alongside "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
With me it was Network Adapters that were the problem.
Hope this helps someone

Go into Device Manager, select your Keyboard Device(s), and choose properties. In the Power Management tab, you should uncheck the 'Allow this device to wake the computer' option.
Repeat for mice.
If the problem persists, do the same for network adapters, USB hubs/devices, etc... until the problem stops.

I still have the problem after trying both of these.

Yes, your problem is not related to waking, but to not even entering the sleep state. Have you checked for an updated BIOS for your mobo? Did or does it enter sleep in any OS?

I have the latest stable BIOS. It is a new build, only the graphics card is the same. I have had issues with sleep previously and reinstalls fixed it. Would rather find the fault though.

It was my Maudio 2496 soundcard that was the problem.
