View Full Version : IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN GET SLI TO FIT?

I'm thinking about getting another XFX 7900GTX GPU, so I can run SLI.
The only problem with that is, because the cards are sooo big in depth, they take up about two PCI slots. I have the GPU in the top PCI Express slot, and an X-FI Sound Card in the bottom PCI slot.
If I fit another GPU card in, it will mean I have to take out my Sound card, but i really dont want to do that ! (I've posted 2 photo's to show you how close the GPU & Sound card is now)

Is there a way I can take the big heatsink+fan off the GPU and replace it with a small, bit as affective cooler? - without going to the water method.

there are single slot coolers on the market that you could buy, and they work rather well
but ive read that someone has had this problem, he just moved the sound card to the pci slot below the top 7900gtx, and it didnt affect his temps by much, only 3-5 degrees C
try it that way when u have a chance, and see what happens before making any purchases

im gonna have same prob with my new pc. gonna have to put the sound card directly below my 7950gx2 but it shouldnt harm temps to bad? will it? i

i have cm stacker stc-t01, not many places do them anymore, probably cos they are so heavy and need wheels (included) to move it
and i also saw the 79gt price

Big Beere
23-10-2006, 10:34 PM
x3 120mm fans at the front
x1 120mm rear
x1 92mm above the 120mm fan
x1 120mm top (replaced from the 92mm)
x1 120mm on an angle in front of the hdd's blowing onto the mobo/gfx card (keeping it as cool as 27c :P )

I've changed the fan near the mobo from a 120mm to a 90mm.
I will show you how I have the fans set up:
X3 120mm Fans at the front. 1 fan is screwed onto the hdd cage, the other two fans are held together by cable-ties and are sitting on top of the very bottom fan (attached to the hdd cage)

Usual 120mm Rear Fan

120mm fan attached to the top of the case, this is also being held by two cable-ties.

Rear 92mm Case Fan + PSU Fan

90mm fan, sitting on the bottom of the case, fits perfectly under my GPU and is cooling the south-bridge

Overall Piccy (wires have been hiden by the way   )

none of them
but seeing thats all that novatech do, i will have to ask some question
you cooling just the cpu
how much space would you be willing to use
do you have the guts to slice your case with a dremel.wait, u said that ur getting the armour case, get the.......................
745, bigB had it, and gave him nice temps
but watchout for leaking pump/res

apparently the SE is better for cooling. yh cpu only! will it be much cooler than using... say a Tt beetle or Zalman aero flower? (like big b's)

Watercooling is by far better than air.
I had TT 745 cooling an overclocked 3800+dual (2.75ghz) getting temps of 35c
Back to air, im idleing at 41/42c!

the bigwater SE uses an optical drive for the res, but the 735 uses a small res attatched to the pump

how much fluid to they gobble?
teknokid
25-10-2006, 05:02 PM
and how much can u move your pc about coz i clean mine every 6 months and apparently moving it can cause spillage? (basically how solid is it once installed with no leaks?) and how much water do they gobble.
And whats the best air cooler?
A few pics of my system (at the mo)!

well, the watercooling kit will take about 1 litre of distilled water (max) depending on how long the tubes are.
water kits are fairly secure, they can be moved, and the connections are solid enough to move the pump once it is installed, just make sure to leave some tube slack so it wont cause any strain on the connections
