I've just downloaded and as benchmarks go i think we need to set a standard so we can make comparisons between systems, let's included aa/af and set the res to 1280 x 1024 full screen. I won't be takingpart yet as I'm currently running my super duper awesome i7 @ 4.2 teamed up with an Ati X1300 128mb until my 260GTX arrives lol
Cal
We all need to run at the same res and settings and im not sure everyone will be able to run at that. maybe 1280/1024 with 4AA.
*Edit* Cal beat me :) What voltage you running for that clock dude?

1280x1024 4xAA + default settings seems a bit too low settings for a proper bench IMO.

I agree Gurusan I do think each bench should be split into mainstream / performance systems. as it is if we called 1680 x 1050 with aa/af as a minimum it alienates a lot of folk but 1280 x 1024 is frustrating for users with high end kit as it's not even stretching it's legs
Cal
gurusan
15-06-2009, 12:19 PM
yeah I think 1680x1050 with all maxed in-game settings would be the bare minimum for people with mid-high stuff.
Sounds good with me. Most high end rigs have atleast a 22" screen so thats about right.

Well ppl will look at the OP dont ya think for what settings to use? And were talking about ppl who wanna push there rig as 1280/1024 is too low. So we wanna run 2 diff settings.

ive added the rules to the op for 1280x1024 its for members who dont have uber monitors i like us i would prefer 1920x1080 as thats my main monitors native res imo but first few reponses were to do 1280x1024 so i agreed to those terms :D

the settings ive got on the op are more than sufficient for this benchmark yeah a few of us can go higher res and settings but we need to do it so those without quad cores and or 200series nvidia 4800 series ATI gpus can have a nice run too :D

Ok I've just rerun with our "standard" and "gamer" settings. I think the gamer settings aren't high enough as it's quite obvious that I'm CPU bottlenecked :/ There's basically no change in the fps at 1680x1050 compared to 1280x1024!
And my rig right now is:
E3120 @ 4.05GHz
4gb ddr2 @ 1025MHz 5,5,5,15
4890 @ 1000/4600

the point is the higher the settings go the more work your gpu does and you should score less @ higher res unless your running sli or xfire rig :D rules are pretty much the same with all benchmarks standerd 3d mark 06 i can score 14k @ stock settings @ 1680x 1050 res or higher i score about the same on that perticular benchmark as its more cpu dependant that gpu but nvidia gpu;s cheat in 3d mark benchies thanks to physx and cuda drivers lol

Yeah but I actually get .24 Fps more at the higher resolution......I am only running a single card so clearly I'm severely CPU bottlenecked in this game at 1680x1050.

how can you be getting 300+ fps lol even on quad fire ive only seen it max at 270 something with an i7 unless your running at 800x600 i dont think its possible i would try reinstalling the benchmark and your display drivers
i dont think the benchmark is designed to go that high on fps count try setting the options higher use 4x aa & 16x filter at your highest resolution

Yes I know BUT the rules were stated, I was just following ;)
As for cooling, lets just say its very well wentilated. Water cooled on a xspc 360 rad for cpu (3x fan), same for gpu (6x fan). Theres no fewer than 12 120mm fans wizzing away as well as a lovely oversized 200mm roof fan. Makes quite a noise I can tell you.

Oh there is. Ive managed 4.4ghz or their abouts on air with a nasty 650i chipset before. cpu-z as proof! Will hunt out the thread for you, system7 was mighty impressed with my venture into overclocking relics.
Andy
Water colling doesnt have to be quiet, it has to be effective to warrent the upgrade. My secret though is a 120w tec. the tec cools the cpu down significantly but chucks out no end of heat hence the tripple rad for a single cpu. This speed is only for benching and is by no means stable. It only works long enough to run 3dmark vantage on a single loop with bits cut out before the system hangs and locks up. For day to day use I have it at 442x9 giving just under 4ghz.

Whilst I appreciate the sceptiscism I do think it became a little repetative and was starting to become a witchhunt. I'd expect the same if I came here and started to say I'd hit 5ghz with an i7
If someone makes an outrageous ( in your opinion ) claim to oc'ing ask em for any evidence by all means but please don't let it become personal and provoking
That's not aimed at any one member in particular, just a general heads up and a request to play nice :D

Both chips were bought at the same time by myself (save on postage) so hopefully they may be off the same bit of sil... Its never been overclocked so should be fun! But 5GHz is not THAT outrageous on an i7 D0 stepping, it's been done already on watercooling.
4.62GHz on a q6600 is ridiculous. It wasn't a witchhunt, it's just that when I see blatant lies I try to expose them.

GurusaN, as requested! Its not the same chip which is a shame as it isnt quite as goo however it does boot into windows at this speed but it chashes out so I have taken a lovely 10megapixel image for you! Will have a work at it to see if i can get it stable at say 4.5ish. BUT heres an image as requested of my whole screen, keyboard, mouse etc on the home screen with CPUz on it.
PS how do i "add attachments" as i dont have an online photo holding account and sticking them on novatech website reduces the quality and size dramticaly.

Firstly
Thanks to both Gurusan and SK I do fully understand the need to call such claims into question, I just felt it was getting a bit personal.
Andrew sorry to see the first chip got fried, but gratz on finding a worthy replacement, the odd's on finding two q6's that clock so well are slim to none, I'm inclined to think it's not the chips themselves but the cooling / mobo / ram behind them that allows them to reach such giddy heights.
Would be interesting to see what you could achieve with an i7 based rig, I hope you can get it stable at around 4.5ghz and look forward to seeing you among the leaders in the benchmarking tables

pc graphics have AA and AF also run a lot faster than the x360 comparing both i as i have it on the 360 with benchmark running on pc it looks and plays so much smoother on the pc :D

Thanks for the apolgies etc, I know its hard to believe and I have to admit most never did believe me when i got it up there! Sadly this chip is only stable at 4.49ghz for benching which is less than the 4.62 I could manage on my other. The only reason I clocked this one to 4.62 was to prove a point which has brought a smile to my face with all of your shocked responses... humble pie? yummmmmm! I could even boot into windows on the last chip at 4.67ghz but it did the same as this one and crashes out leaving the pc solid and unable to do anything other than pull the plug.
I have had some fun overclocking an i7 as i have one myself bar the motherboard that ebuyer are still yet to send a replacement back!!! I managed a healthy 4.91ghz on an D0 920 under the same cooling with little effort. I cant see why I shouldnt be able to push it to 5ghz+ given the time. When I get the mobo back (or if I end up buying another from novatech) Ill get to work and stick some overclocks in there!
Ive had a fair bit of luck with the q6600 managing 4.4ghz on a board similar to system7's running the old 650i chipset from nvidia. Thats my favourite achievement I must say as overclocking that relic truely was an epic ordeal that brought a "proper" grin to my otherwise stern face.
Attempting to run one of these benchmarks as we speak, got tri-sli 260s and the 4.49ghz q6600 running, should prove some corking results!

4.2ghz in an mATX case is spot on though! I was using an antec 1200 with all stanard fans and a tripple ran with 6 fans attached + a 120w tec (anything lower and you may aswell not bother, anything higher and the heat generated is that high water cooling isnt powerful enough to get rid of the heat so everything slowly creeps up. Hence the 120w... Theres logic behind my madness and a lot of applied maths to ensure it would work before instalation.) And even then I was on 4.91ghz which isnt drastically higher than your 4.2ghz on air. I havnt yet managed it as I havnt had the chance BUT I cant see why 5ghz isnt out of reach! Ill open up a new thread when everything is sorted with a competion to overclock peoples systems obviously with proof! Ill then base the win on the system that gets the highest percentage overclock overall which would then be proved by custompc's benchmark test?? eg overall you get 1000, overclocked you get 1300. vs someone who gets 1200 then 1400 overclocked. The former being the winner as the percentage increase is larger. Im Going to be putting up my q6600 as a prize. Will launch the comp when I have my i7 up and running again. So if you or any other mod + nova staff think this is a good idea, I'll get on it when the time comes.
Well... Still no luck with this benchmark! Cant get it to run, not even on stock speeds! I had a similar issue with 3dmark06, still cant get that to run! think I'm going to give up on it...

Here is mine, really low result its either my cpu is holding it back or its something else.
I dont think it recognises crossfire. Also both cards stayes at 46 & 54'C
Cpu temp did increase slightly about 4'c.
so the only thing i can think of this is heavily based on cpu and not gpu.

First run quadfired as the above and got (sorry its just text print screen doesnt appear to want to work :S)
"SCORE: 12614
AVERAGE: 194.38FPS
OS: Windows Vista(TM) Ultimate
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz

So 30FPS (~20%) increase - not bad - It looks like the Quadfire sont give any (or a negative) affect at "lower" res but eats 1920x1200 and higher, AA and AF for fun.
I just did a quick 3DM06 run and was getting 110FPS+ @1920x1200 with 8xAA (in the forst test) which is almost exactly the same as a good run at stock settings with a single x2 (i.e 21K).
I cant give you the final score as it crapped out - looks like I need to re-seat the second GFX and CPU waterblocks as the temps have shot up :P
