i have always used a LAN to share my broadband connection from my desktop, to an ethernet HUB, which shared it to my laptop and xbox.
Recently my desktop encountered a problem and had to be sent back for repair (not novatech), so i used my laptop for a direct internet connection using the USB modem.
When i got my desktop back, i tried to set up the network connection, but came up "limited/no connectivity"
The internet is shared on my desktop, and all boxes are checked for allowing networking. however, my laptop has aquired an IP address and default gateway address. this is conflicting with my desktop trying to share connection.
The settings are set to automatically detect IP and default gateway, but it is still retaining the original IP address.

How can i reset my IP and default gateway, so it will share them from my desktop??

Make sure you have the local area connection set to Obtain an IP address automatically.
Open up a command prompt and type. ipconfig /release
This should set your IP address to 0.0.0.0
Then type ipconfig /renew
After a few moments this should acquire a new address from the router.
You may want to try this on both machines
