I recently decided that I wanted to upgrade my system a bit. I realised from research that if I added a new beefier gfx card than my existing FX5200 128MB, I would need a better PSU, so the Tagan got installed first (28A on 12v). Very easy, and already dropping case and CPU temps a couple of degrees and is MUCH quieter than the old PSU.

Then after a lot of reading pros and cons of various cards (up to about £100 ish), I decided on Nova's own 7600GS (XpertVision) 256MB AGP.

Arrived next day, but could I make it work ? Could I sausages :-) Maybe faulty card, maybe incompatible.

Spoke to the all knowing Danno, and aftre swapping drivers a couple of times, got an RMA and am currently awaiting a courier to collect, but in the meantime, just in case it is an incompatibility, what alternatives are recommended ? I was also looking at the 6800GT, or the ATI X1600 or X800 in whatever formats they come.

What would *you* do ?

Heavy duty, large RAW file photo editing, watching HD movies and DVD/movie editing will be the main gfx intensive apps.

TIA

What video slot do you have, i presume that it is a AGP, if so, what speed does it run.
And btw, the X800XL is the better out of all the cards you suggested at the bottom.

the world is your oyster
get the X800XL/XT
but if you can afford it, get the X850,more expensive, but they rock

Dan just told me the card was NOT faulty and I'm getting a refund, so I will need to re-evaluate and maybe borrow some cards to try out. My system is pretty stable and has plenty of oomph for any card, so don't really know whats going on here.

Anyone else any experiences of 7600s not working in their system ?

firstly your system hasnt got plenty of oomph for any card but your budget is only £100 so that doesnt matter. tbh if you want a new gfx card it might be worth getting a pci-e mobo as pci-e is sssooooo much better!
