I posted on this site a few months ago about the 32" Hd set and sky hd, has anybody had any joy using a dvi>hdmi lead on the sky hd box? Or the component colour being ok? I have an xbox 360 connected via component, so in theory does that mean that the colour should be fine using sky hd?
Many thanks

My Atec 32" has been working fine with Sky HD for ages. I remember your original posts. Did you send your tv back for a firmware upgrade as was requested by the engineer from the service company? I intially had trouble with Sky HD and the colour casting via component, but the firmware upgrade cured everything.
Picture fine using either DVI or component.

Didn't send it back, asked a few questions the other day,
Sorry to sound like a pain in the ****, but i need to print out a few questions and answers for my friends with the same telly as me
1) The sky HD box has no known faults with component connection?
2) The dvi will work with Sky HD, using a DVI>HDMI lead?
3) DVI is HDCP compliant?
4) The firmware was for the 37" and 42" screens and that was for the colour problem using component?
1 – No, but component is not HDCP complaint. Sky experimented with HDCP on some of their channels but have yet to make a firm commitment one way or the other if they will enact this system on a permanent basis.
2 – Yes
3 – Yes. HDCP is a display device authentication standard, it makes no difference what connector schema is in use, only that it is a digital connection and it contains some form of IIC data bus to provide the authentication route, this is similar to that used for EDID which makes Plug & Play work. This is why component cannot be made to work with HDCP – there are no spare paths for the IIC data bus.
4 – Firmware update for 32” was for the colour problem. Firmware update for 37”/42” was for Sky HD problem. 32” uses a different chipset to 37”/42” so it was not affected by this issue.

I'd agree with 1-3 answers, but I was told that incorrect chipset was the reason for the non-centralised picture through DVI whilst using Sky HD (that came from both service company and an ATEC engineer in Korea).
I don't think that you should have a problem with any tv's bought recently, but if I were you get your friend to call Amkotron with the serial number - they will then inform him/ her of the status with the tv.
Best of luck.

So can you tell the difference between using component and dvi? is it worth getting a component box, so in the future i could have sky hd, xbox 360 and ps3 working through component? and if my xbox 360 works on component, does that mean that sky hd will definately work?
Cheers mate

I can't see there being a problem. DVI/ HDMI is supposed to give the better picture over component, but to be honest, I couldn't tell the difference. The only problem I had at the start, was colour casting...but that was with all equipment. Basically if your component picture is ok with what you have now, then it will be ok with everything else. Obviously if Sky introduce an HDCP policy, then you will have to use DVI for Sky.
I currently have Sky HD thru' DVI, DVD player thru' component and PC thru' VGA. I am going to get one the DVI switch boxes so I can use the PC through DVI too.
