What laptop to go for

OK, i need a laptop with at least 512MB RAM and would prefer x2 256MB to one 512MB. Windows XP Pro and either a single or dual core cpu. Will not be playing games on it and have an external hdd so dont need a massive GB hdd.

Also need it to boot in the bios to an external hard drive!

Would prefer something under £600 or do i need to spend more?

OK, someone needs to take this post, and publish it ALL over the world for people to look at and learn from.

I actually like to terrorise sales reps in some large well-known computer retailers when they try to upsell. Granted i was NEVER going to buy anything anyway (just go in for an argument), but I hate being needlessly told to buy something well over that which is necessary, and don't like consumers being taken advantage of.
