Hey everyone =]
Well i'm in need of a new phone as I still have my nokia 6230i :P
Awsome little phone it's been, but I need to get with the times and get a new one hehe
So I get paid at the end of the month!
Should have about £800 land it's way into my bank accoutn *I hope*
SO i'm planning on going to cardiff, buying some clothes, meal for me and thr GF and also getting my new phone that day too :P
So the choice is out of the Iphone 3G [s] and the BlackBerry Bold.
I love the blackberry because it just looks so stunning and i really like the full qwerty keypad, still have to get used to touch screens.
But I absolutely love the look of the iphone and the fact it's 16gb compared to the 1gb of the blackberry makes me change my mind too.
All I want to know is which should I go for and why?
Any other phones I should concider and why?
I'm dead serious about getting one of the two =]
I used the internet a fair bit, want to play games when i'm bored in work blah blah blah and of course ccall and text :P
Thanks everyone =]

Don't get the iPhone, it is overrpiced for what it is in my opinion.
The Blackberry is more a phone that i see would be used if you use alot of emailing and internet and the sort.
If you want a good phone that is touch screen and good at music for a reasonable price have a look at the Nokia 5800, i take it you are going for pay as you go?

Not too fond of the nokia 5800 actually.
It just seems to be missing something for me.
I am concidering going pay as you go, but I may go contract since i'll have the money and thinking about it, it seems a lot better to go for.
Both phones fit my needs and have what I want.
Thing is camera and the built in memory and some slight other things, are much better on the iphone.
And pay as you go, the bold is £40 chheaper, so not much lol

The camera might be better compared to the bold, but from what i have heard and seen it is a lot worse than on other phones.
It might be worth having a look at other smartphones such as the HTC phones that are available on vodafone and orange.

I had the original iphone. When i got it I rated it 7/10 because of the price being too high, the camera sucked with no video and the software (no forwarding txts etc) was awful! Edge was OK for the net, wifi fantastic.
I then got the 3G. The internet speed was great in comparrison and made it a joy to use. BUT everything else remained the same for a whole 12 months with regards to shoddy software not being able to forward txts. It came with GPS but no satnav software?? Pointless I thought! However With the 3G came the app store which was also made available to the original iphone. The iphone 3G at the point got 8/10
SOFTWARE UPDATE 3.0
With the introduction on 3.0 came copy paste, txt forwarding, picture messaging and numerous other little updates the made the phone a far more enjoyable piece of kit. This 3.0 software I feel should have come with the initial iphone 18 months ago!
iphone users I feel a 7.5/10 would be in order as it didnt have all the functionality of the 3G (due to speed etc) 3G users I no feel would say a 8.5/10 is in order with my only gripe being the awful camera, price and lack of video.
Iphone 3G S.
Now I have this, It has sorted out all of the problems you can think of with the original and the 3G.
1, all the enhancements of 3.0 software
2, navigon satnav software is now available for just £37.99 and tomtom is coming out soon!
3, internet speed is yet even faster!
4, a 3.2mpixel camera is fine for a phone. With lack of optical zoom on nearly all phones its pointless getting anything with anything higher than say a 5m camera. it even has an autofocus feature where if you tap on the screen it focus' in that area!
5, the video recording is up there with the best handsets available at the moment doing full 30fps VGA recording which is better than that of the n96(in terms of quality)!! Even the N97 will only have this feature. The ability to edit your footage on handset is also fantastic and it works VERY well.
6, It has an enhanced graphics processor and cpu which means rnning games like the sims3 in full 3d glory is fluid with no lag. There was a little lag before with the 3G but nothing to write home about.
All in all I feel that now I have a games console (in cases comparable to the psp provided you buy the decent quality apps), a satnav, an 32gb ipod touch, a mobile internet device, a reasonable point and shoot camera, a decent (ish) camcorder, an email device and a video player all rolled into one tidy good looking little device.
Is it worthy of 10/10? NO! price of tarrifs and handset is still a little high! It gets a 9.5/10 from me. If they dropped the price of the handset on contract by say half and dropped each of the pay and go prices by around £50 then this would truely be the BEST hand held device ever created by far! Its EPIC!

I've not really given HTC much thought, but I do like them.
They look very nice, but i'm not sure on what they're actually like.
Well I have the time on my hands to go test them out =]
Just want more opinions :P

I know! It was a poor poor show by apple I must admit! But now it has everything you could wish for in a phone.
Everything you could wish for in a media device
Everything you could wish for in a portable internet device
Apple have finally got this spot on! Im curious as to why only a 3.2m camera has been used but its nothing too drastic as theres no optical zoom so it never will be a camera replacement. Just as these new 12m camera phone wont be either. Without an optical zoom its just pointless!

It doesnt have a flash either which is helpful when you are trying to take pictures in the dark
Nokia phones seem good if you want a camera on it, and i am wondering the N97's camera will be any good as that is another option to go for

HI there
Think I might get the new Iphone 3G S model, gonna go with 16GB model as can get a good deal on it where I get the phone free (24 month) and only pay £27.50 a month as get discount from 02. :D
Question is do I get white or black? Black looks better but finger print marks etc. so maybe white?
What colour you got Andrew Moore? Any pics after use to see how badly it marks?

HTC Magic on Vodafone is meant to be a really good phone, and there is the HTC Hero which was announced yesterday and will be with Orange and Tmobile in July :)

Aah i'm stuck if i'm honest =[
The GF has the samsung tocco ultra. Good phone but the battery is terrible if you're using the net and camera.
I also want the phone to be a very good media device since I listen to a lot of music.
Plus I need a new ipod and the iphone is the best of both worlds :P
But I shall have a look around.
My vote would go for black =]
Though I love the white >_<

Its identicle in looks to the 3G. That didnt mark at all over the winter etc as hands are usually more dry. It was ok over the start of the summer and in spain but as soon as your hands get sweaty its awful. Same goes for all touch screen phones in all honesty. It certainly is the case for the htc touch HD.
I would get black as it looks nicer in my opinion. The 3G market was flooded with black and the white was hard to come by. Now everyone seems to be getting the white which will hopefully mean the black ones will become the more "rare" of colours in the future which should help with resale value.
Ill get some photos uploaded of the device for you to have a look at with some of the goodies running (sims 3 etc)... myst looks fantastic but at 724mb its huge!

Yes, and its actually not bad graphically. Its full 3d and probably on par with the sims 2 in terms of what it looks like.

Would you recommend the new Iphone over other phones of the same type that have all the apps like the Iphone?
Vigoro
25-06-2009, 11:44 PM
The iPhone has the most apps out of any phone, as it is popular and they made all of the apps in the first place :)
Apple had a fanbase, and they went and bought the phone, it seems they are now moving to make it better, and if it does get there, i will consider one, but at the minute it doesnt seem to cut it for the price difference :(

If you read my first reply ive gone into detail with it...
Id go 3Gs but its around £60 more than the 3G. In terms of performance its hardly any different except the 3Gs is slightly quicker and has video recording.
Thats about it

Well i'm mainly after the large internal memory, good video playback, is compatible with most websites, has a lot of apps, has some fun free games to play *like sudoku* has a decent camera and isn't THAT hard to get used to.
Wow i'm not picky lol
Andrew Moore
25-06-2009, 11:50 PM
Well both phones do all of that.... the 3Gs is just slightly quicker with an ability to record video and take slightly better pics. If this is worth the extra £60 to you then the 3Gs is what you want. Otherwise get the 3G.

For the bigger memory size, video capture and the better camera, I feel as if it is worth it.
Personally I do.
I thik i'll have a play around with the Iphone 3Gs first to get a feel for it and i'll also have a look at the blackberry bold to see what that's like aswell.
Though I am going towards the Iphone.
I'm glad i'm not an apple fanboy and waited before I even gave the phone a second thought lol
Too many of my friens bought the 2G model when it came out and regretted it ever since.
Thank you Andy =]
And you too Vig.

Yeah, go the the shops, ask for a demonstration of them(should be easy with the iPhone as O2 normally have them out already!) Get a feel for the phone and usability, don't just get a phone cause it looks nice :)
If it turns out that the iPhone is good for you aswell as the Bold then get the iPhone as it would be more useful for you i would of thought

bold.
It has a full qwerty vs a touchscreen (the novelty of a touchscreen wears off very quickly)
it has a better multimedia support (divx, avi, wmv, wma, etc)
it has a better operating system that supports all previous applications for RIM
its better looking (although this is subjective)
better bluetooth profile (file sharing, stereo, keyboard, etc)
voice dialing
java
the one thing blackberry still hasnt done was give their phones a worthy internet browser.. perhaps they will change some day. But at least the browser works for more then 10 minutes without crashing the phone.
go bold

HI there
Well I got it and well I can't put it down. :D
I am blasting my brains out now with some classic ministry of sound. It seems very quick and easy to use, well texting on it is a breeze, you can have full on conversations with people via text and it takes no time, so really impressed with it.
Here is a pic from the camera but not 100% on how to use camera as if you touch the screen it seems to focus or do something:-

Its not digital camera quality but its fine for a phone and far better than my Motorola Razer V2 was. :)

Hey GIBBO, glad your enjoying it, got mine day of release after having both the original and 3G and I have to say it's fantastic! It's only slightly quicker than the original 2 with games etc and very fast over 3g. The camera as you have shown is reasonably good for a phone and isn't really that bad when printing 6x4s, you can't even tell the differnce between it and an 8mp phone as 6x4 is small anyway. Have you tried the video yet? I've found it to be fantastic and am very impressed I must say! It's reasonblu sharp and very fluid with reasonble sound too, if you have an older mini dv camcorder I would say this could replace it! On a side note download the sims 3 and real racing. Both are fantastic games with truely amazing graphics. If you use a sat nav a fair bit I suggest the navigon app. It's better than a tom tom one that's for sure which makes it a bargain at just under £40.

Navigon doesn't have speed cameras though so it's not really better.
Andrew Moore

Navigon doesn't have speed cameras though so it's not really better.
You only need speed cameras if you speed and those who pay attention to the roads can see the cameras.
Speed camera alerts are for women who are too busy yapping to the woman next to her or for people who dont pay attention at all. The latter if you crashed is whats known as "driving without due care and attention". So my suggestion is, if you need the speed camera warnings, get off of the road and buy a push bike
Other than the "speed camera issue" that you feel is a must, the navigon software etc is just far better! Ive stared at a sat nav for the best part of 100,000miles now.. The navigon is the superior of the software and tomtom need to keep with the times if they are going to keep the market share.

100% Get the iphone, nothing comes close!
I am a regular contributor to QucikPWN forums, i did i great big comparison to what the 3G[S] Does more to the 3G not allot i tell you :P
So many people are asking the question “should i wait for the iphone 3G S?” or “get a 3G” so i have wrote this to try save you some time.
Ok so lets begin...
Appearance
Well physically the iphone 3G and the 3GS have no differences at all, apart from the 3GS Having a “s” symbol on the back.
The devices do way different the iphone 3G ways 133g and the 3GS 135g so only a difference of 2g which is unnoticeable in the human hand.
Internal Specifications
They internal hardware differences between the 3G and the 3GS are:
Camera
Iphone 3GS
3.15 MP, 2048x1536 pixels, autofocus via touch screen.
Iphone 3G
2 MP, 1600x1200 pixels
My Verdict: There is not really a win for the 3GS in this round, it may have a 3.15MP camera, but 2.0MP is enough for most people and for the price is does not justify my vote.
Video
Iphone 3GS
VGA@30fps
Iphone 3G
Officially No > However it can be done with a jailbreak and an application and records as VGA@25FPS
My Verdict: There is a gain in this round to the 3GS if you do not plan on JailBreaking your 3G, If you are planning on Jailbreaking your 3G and can live without a auto focus and 5FPS in video, again there is still no mean in spending the money on an upgrade. I would spend the money on a real Camera/video
CPU (Speed)
Iphone 3GS
ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz, PowerVR SGX graphics
256 MB RAM
Iphone 3G
ARM 11 412 MHz, PowerVR MBX-Lite graphics
128 MB RAM
My Verdict: Well the iphone 3GS is faster, but this is down to having a faster CPU and more RAM, Applications will open faster, (Mili Seconds) also with more RAM it will be possible to switch faster between applications. and less chance of getting memory errors. Overall if you are not bothered about the slight second in speed between opening Apps and switching i see no gain in getting the 3GS.
3G Network Speed
Both phones come with EDGE, GPS
Iphone 3GS
HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps
Ipone 3G
3G
My Verdict: Well this is in my eyes the 1st clear point in which the iphone 3GS exceeds in, but there is a problem HSDPA is a new technology, its in the process of becoming installed in major city’s across the word. 3G is still being installed across the globe. So unless you are living in a populated area you will still be using 3G.
This is a mixed point, are depends where you live, so if you live in a very built up area go for the 3GS if not i would not recommend it, wait for the next “iphone” when the networks speed has caught up with the hardware.
Battery
Iphone 3GS
Stand By - Up to 300H
Talk Time – Up to 12H (2G) / Up to 5 Hours (3G)
Music - Up to 30H
Ipone 3G
Stand By - Up to 300H
Talk Time – Up to 10H
Music - Up to 24H
My Verdict: The 3GS seems to have a better battery life, but in the past Apple have been in trouble over there Battery times, these could be official but don’t be on it.
Apart from these things i have listed the ipgone3G and 3GS are completely the same
Things which the Iphone 3GS Can do more?
Well what can the iphone 3GS do which the Iphone can’t? – Well i depends if you are going to JailBreak it or not!
Ok so if you are not going to jailbreak your 3GS you can benefit from the following:
3.0MP Video/camera
Voice Control
Compass
Internet tethering (Using your phones 3G connection to browse the internet on a Laptop or computer)
What if you jailbreak your iphone 3G?
Run on any network/carrier*
Well at the moment the 3.0 Jailbreak is not available but should be VERY VERY VERY Soon, but when it is, you most likely will be able to do all the above features apart from the 3.0MP some you already can. You will be able to do so much more as times goes by...
What about 3GS Jailbreak?
well yes there will be one but, the team who create the Software could take longer, as Apple will make it hard to jailbreak, resulting in taking the team longer but yes, there will be one.
So should i get the 3GS?
Well i personally will not!, but you may choose to – There is nothing which for me personally justifies the price tag. I will wait and see what Apple comes up with next. i advise you to do the same.
BUT... Ihave the 2G
Well, if i was in your shoes, i would read the above and still gone with the 3G and save my money are buy a good camera, If money is no object and you want the latest iphone because it is the latest iphone, go for it!
I hope i have saved some of you the time, and i hope i answered some of your question if not all
Hope that helped you between choosing the two :)

Do not get the 3GS!!!
Get the new iPhone when it is released, there is not much more it can do to the 3G if you jailbreak it.
+ it is exactly the same as the 3G and the speed comparison is like OMG 1 second differance, my cousin has the 3GS And when I compared them, the money just does not justify the phone.
