View Full Version : New GA-965P-S3 can't set up RAID

Just bought this Gigabyte mobo with 2 x 250GB HDDs, followed the manual for setting up. To set up RAID, p.68 of the manual says "after the POST memory test begins and before the operating system boot begins, look for a message which says "Press <Ctrl-G> to enter RAID setup facility". It then gives a picture of what should appear.

BUT, this message doesn't actually appear at all during the POST, or if it does it is too quick to catch. So, how do I set up RAID on this board? Has anyone done it successfully? Or do I have to return the board to Novatech as not being 'fit for purpose'?

Thanks,

Andy

More likely you have not got it enabled in the bios. It still needs enabling before you can go in to the <ctrl-g> and start setting up your HD's. I can tell you where it is on a P5W64 pro but not for your mobo i'm afraid.

Thanks very much for that - but I have enabled it in the BIOS - Integrated Peripherals - as per the manual. The manual says it should give that Ctrl-G message, but it doesn't! Or at least if it does, it is doing it just too quickly to see or stop at. Has Novatech not tried to set up this motherboard (one of their standard bundles) with RAID and big drives? What luck have they had?

If you have you got the SATA bit set to RAID in there (The bit where it says enhanced, RAID or disabled as options) and possibly a raid on/off set to enabled sounds like it could be faulty. You could try a BIOS flash, but I would think its unlikely to sort it.

Get a returns number & get it back to them for testing.

Hiya

I just built a system with this motherboard, and the ICH8 doesnt support RAID only the Gigabyte ones do.

So u just need to connect them onto the purple ports on the motherboard.

This supports RAID 0 1 , and JBOD.
