I'd like to know more about this too, as if you get the w7 equivalent of that Vista OS (64 bit home premium vista upgrades you too 64 bit home premium windows 7) then it could work out a decent deal. £14 more and you get Vista with an upgrade to w7 does sound rather good.

http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/buy/offers/upgrade.aspx some more info there.

i believe our pre-installed systems, the OEM and the RETAIL editions will all offer this upgrade and i have seen no pricing therefore the grapevine says it IS a free upgrade. I will check for you so watch this space!

cheers, just thinking if that is true, then you would save a bunch.

I believe that if you purchased a Vista license after July 1st 2009 on an OEM prebuilt machine you qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 7.

The one thing I'll mention, as it's news to some people that there is no "upgrade" feature for Windows 7 E (european versions). You can upgrade in as far as you wipe XP / Vista off your machine and install Windows 7, but there is no direct "upgrade" feature to install Windows 7 over the top of a pre-existing OS. For large businesses that generally go with a wipe / refresh approach it'll be fine, for smaller businesses and home users it's likely to be a bit of a disaster for potential data loss :)

Why? Currently it's not set in stone but it's to do with the fact that Microsoft have chosen to not supply a browser with Windows 7 in Europe because of the strange recommendations made by the EU governing body about anti-competition.

If this isn't news to you I apologise, but perhaps it will help someone.

I am looking to buy a Novatech Rocochet Pro machine and Amy confirmed to me by email that the machine comes with the 64bit OEM Vista installed and also the upgarde to Win7. Great news.

The Win7 will be via voucher and an OS disk from Microsoft but will require a clean install. So I only need rely on the backup partition on the HDD for so long as I wait for Win 7

My plan is the run the machine on Vista as installed with the 1TB drive and then do a clean install on a new 500GB drive. I can then install my applications and transfer files over as required to get the machine working with the 500GB drive and then have the TB drive as my main storage area for music, photos and video files for editing etc.

Only certain packs contain the upgrade, which cost more as they include all charges to Windows 7. AFAIK, you must have bought this before the period Novatech were selling Vista with Windows 7 upgrade.

No it was on the offer. Tbh, i remember him saying something about how to upgrade it, but it kinda went over my head at the time. I dont know whether any one who works at a novatech (I brought it from the one near portsmouth), could tell me what im ment to be looking for/what i'm ment to do?

Update - I got the Ricochet with Vista preinstalled. The system boots and confirms it to be the 64 bit version with a hidden partition for the restore options. The great news was that an OEM version of the software came in the box complete with the disk and the voucher code for W7. Sorted!
