Are SATA HDD's compatible with NT4????
:?
If you are referring to the O/S Windows NT 4.0 then I don’t see any reason why you cant. Although you might need the Drivers.
If your PC can support SATA Hard disk's then there is only one way to find out.
At the end of the day PATA (IDE), SATA and SCSI Hard disks are all the same but with 3 different types of back plane.
If anyone else knows better please correct me.

Thanks, yes I am refering to the operating system. Bought a computer with SATA drives and I want to load NT4 onto it. Only thought afterwards if NT4 supports SATA.
Thankyou for your reply
What do you need to use it for??? XP Pro is going at a bargain at the moment for only £92.00 This has most of the networking options in there as NT 4 has. But at the end of the day its your decision.
Also If you are making up a SATA RAID you will need the motherboards SATA Drivers to enable the OS to install correct on the disks.

as long as you have the drivers ,there should be no problem

We had this problem at my previous work
theres only a few Serial ATA controller cards that support NT 4, and they are the super expensive ones made by Adaptec (If I remember correctly)

what about if you use onboard SATA??/
Are SATA hdd's compatible with NT4????
:?
No they are not - we had few machines at work where we needed to put NT on them and we couldn't - the onboard sata controller did not have NT drivers and we could not switch it to IDE mode or what not in the BIOS.
That said, there may well be a few onboard controller that may well of had NT drivers written for them, or buy an add-in card like the above poster suggested. And remember about NT's partition size limits...
but basically, no - unless you can find some drivers.

or use smething like vmware under 2k/xp - unless you have sme really oddhardware req lke e did.

Use XP Pro if you can then in that case. You will be more uptodate and also you will be supported for longer. XP drivers are more common also for this. (use the onboard SATA if you have it)
unless you have sme really oddhardware req lke e did.
Anyone have a clue what I was trying to say there????

hahahahaha, top man!
in regards to the post...
If it is for work stuff....it will take longer for you to get this anywhere NEAR halfway working.....and therefore cost more money to the company.....than a version of Win2000/2003 server.
If it's for a home project......just..well....**** no. Not for all the tea in china.

my work place would not see it like that, we have far too many 'rules' & politics flying around - i'm not even sure if i'm allowed to fix computers anymore, think my job now involves smiling and pretending everything works fine!!!
