Heya guys,
I have been thinking, as im building my new PC, of raiding 2 200gb HDD's together. Iv been told by a friend whos supposed to be a semi-decent Technician, that SATA RAID is a Sod to set-up.
I like to think of myself as a good technician, and i cant think that theres a problem with doing this?
Also, how do u install SATA drives? i have read 3 different things on how to do it.

You plug in to the motherboard the sata cable. Then you plug this into your sata hard disk. Then conect you'r power connecter into the hard disk. Once done and you wish to make a raid (you will lose your data on the disks if you make a raid) hit the key which takes you into the sata raid utility. Make sure that on the BIOS of this mobo SATA RAID is enabled. Then you create the raid from the raid utility.
RAID - 0 = Striping - both disks are made as one, if one disk goes bang, you have lost the lot. Ideal for speed but not for safe data.
RAID - 1 = Mirror - both disks are the same. Ideal for safe data.
RAID - 0+1 = Mirroring and Striping
RAID - 5 = You need min of 3 disk's. This will make all 3 disks the same. If one goes bang then you put a new one in and the data is put back onto this.
etc..
What im doing on mine is the following.
2 x 36GB Raptors. SATA - RAID - 0 = With the OS and all apps.
= 72GB disk of data.
2 x 360 WD SATA - RAID - 1 = Will partision this up into many sections. one section will be the back up of my O/S disk. Also i will image all my softeware on there etc....
And don't forget Matrix RAID!!!!
Sod to set up? only the first time.

raid is easy to set-up
do you want it for performance, or for security??
i have a NF4 board and this is how i did it
connected HDD's
loaded Nvidia RAID drivers
went into bios and enabled the SATA channels and N(vidia)RAID
rebooted, went through post, clicked when it asked to set up a RAID
set-up the drives i wanted
rebooted, shoved windows disk in, and the rest of the install was the same as if i was to install XP on a single drive
And don't forget Matrix RAID!!!!

Matrix Raid - lets you have striping for speed and mirroed for redundancy while using only two HD's. But you need intel motherboard for it - its pretty clever. Is what i'm running at the moment.
Then there is the erm, another RAID, tekram maybe? thing where you read at double speed write at single but have full redundancy too. Can't rememebr the who makes it or name now either.

Basicly RAID - 0+1
yup, but you can do it with 2 hd's rather than the traditional 4!

But didnt i basicly say that??? lol pmsl.....
