Trouble installing GeForce 7800 GS

I just ordered an XFX GeForce 7800 GS. After plugging it in, uninstalling my old drivers and installing the new ones I cannot get it to work.

The PC boots up as normal and the motherboard detects the card, however once it gets passed the windows logo the screen goes black and the desktop doesn't load.

I currently have a 400W PSU, an AGP 8x motherboard (its a winfast one I ordered on Novatech in February) and the computer still works fine with my old GeForce FX5500 installed.

Any ideas about what I can do to make ithe new card work?

does the card require another source of power??
some boards dont give that much powr to the AGP slot, so may just be a power problem

There is a seperate power connection direct from the card to the PSU.

Is a 400W power supply not enough for this card then?

may not be.
do you have another power supply lying around the place that you could use.

one powering whole comp apart from gfx card
one with a "mod" to make it think that the motherboard is connected and connect it to the gfx card.

probably very dangerous doing it that way, and i wouldnt really recommend it, but it is a viable solution

or just borrow a better PSU from a mate, or buy one from a pc shop (instore) then return it the next day saying that it didnt fit :D

OK, I tried it with a new 600W power supply and still no joy.

Any more ideas??

Maybe your motherboard doesnt support the card

My Motherbaord is a winfast NF3250K8AA, how can I find out if it supports the card?

And how do I upgrade the bios?

you could also google it, or just look on the manufacturers webby and most of them have instructions on how to, or go onto their forums :D
