i have a problem with the pc i have at the moment,am not to technical with this pc stuff,so bear with me
i got an issue with my pc ,when i am gaming or using it ,every now and then it will just turn off,ie shutdwn, but no shutdown procedure...
i got a 80 gig h/drive.
2 x1 gig sticks of matched ram
7800 gs xtx graphics card
new 500 watt power supply and a new mthrboard, epox 8kda series
i have reformatted several times and it still persists on shutting down..
am gonna get a new pc and give this one to my daughter, but i feel as though i will be up and down those stairs of mine ,with her moaning...
any ideas greatly recieved....yours baz
its crashed!!
but you knew that allready :D
Go into system properties -> advanced -> startup & recovery -> and take the tick out of automatically restart.
Won't fix the problem but will give you a nice blue screen with some info that may help us next time it crashes.
Other option, look in eventvwr, but this only even seems to give you half the message!

Set your bios settings back to manufacture defult. Then put everything back no norm but please dont over clock it unless u have good cooling and know what ur doing.
e.g. my AMD Sempron 2600+ is 2.0Ghz. tut tut.

Overclocking is most definately not the only cause of CPU overheating. The heatsink might be loose, there might be insufficient thermal paste, you could have a failed or failing fan or even just a filthy hs. OF course you can't rule out a faulty cpu...
Sooo, aren’t you going to tell him how to check this???? :?
Grown, I might as well then.
ATTENTION!!! READ THIS 1ST BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.
To avoided static from damaging your CPU, motherboard, memory etc... when you put your gummy hands on it.
It is advisable that you use an antistatic wristband that is connected to an earth connection. Normally you can get special plastic plugs that plug into a house main's socket. The plug only has one metal stick that goes into earth.
Or
Please have your power supply cable still inserted at all times in your pc and wall, while having the PSU and wall socket turned off. Also please make sure you are always touching the case and have your shoes off at all times while you are operating with computer hardware
Right, now thats over and done with.
Please do the following if you have read the above or don’t really care.
Take off Heat Sink.
Put some white spirit on a clean cloth.
Then wipe off all heat sink compound from off the CPU and from off the Heat sink until its clean as clean can be.
Clean all dust and junk from off heat sink. Clean fan.
Now put some new heat sink compound on the CPU. Not allot as you can over do it. Now spread the compound over the CPU so that all flat surfaces are covered which contact the heat sink.
Put back the heat sink and fan onto CPU as if you were finishing it off. Push down hard a little.
Now take the heat sink off again.
Wipe off the excess heat sink compound on the heat sink with the cloth which has white spirit on.
Clean the heat sink's base till its like new again.
Now put it back and fix to CPU.
FINNISHED.
You might wana get a new heat sink and fan while you’re at it.

If he doesn't understand what to do next then I would suggest that someone else have a look at it. If I had a huge wad of cash for everytime a n00b bent a pin, badly attached a hsf, accidently stuck one body part into another while trying to repair a problem I would be very wealthy. Very.

Please dont take what I said personal. I say some things like that just to spice up a post.

I find your sig spicy enough... I can almost feel the heat...
It's sweet that some people try to work out computers, I've even seen the computer work afterwards sometimes, but when they start to occupy my mental space it is wearing - like a mosquito - and maybe it would be best if we picked up a newspaper...
He he he he.
Well were I work im Technical Support so im used to being battered all day everyday. I just get used to it.
