I seem to have a habit of associating songs with people the past few years. Every-time i heard a song it will remind me of a certain person, or sometime i was with that person and what happened. I've found out recently that i'm not the only person that does this, and some people associate songs with other things aswel. My brother for example associates them with colours and feelings.

Any of you lot do the same?

My person associations are usually just along the lines of artist/group ones. With pop songs that's obvious, eg Slade with Merry Christmas Everybody but with folk songs where author may be unknown, I may have heard dozens of versions, etc. perhaps less so but there still might be a version I heard someone do that particularly struck me or perhaps I know someone who "always" sings it, etc.

I can also have time/place associations, eg. I might remember where I was/ what I was doing when I first heard something.

With other things, overall, I suspect tunes (things with no words rather than a melody to a song) are more interesting than songs. Songs have someone telling you (well not all makes sense to me but...) what it's about. With tunes it can be about whatever your imagination pictures either just at the time or perhaps long term.

Whenever i hear a song im instantly reminded of what i was doing/was happeneing at the the time i first heard it,

For instance How to save a life by the fray conjures up images of the uef campaign in Supeme commander :D

I gotta agree, Jono, I associate songs with people.

Gabrielle's "Sunshine" will always be a certain significant other at her best times.

Don Maclean's "Bye Bye Miss American Pie" will always be a certain lovely 4 year old who knew it (almost) word perfect.

"Baby, you can drive my car" will always be a certain person's way of saying something rather sweet.

I think if you are attentive to music, you are in that quiet mind state when wonderful things happen.

Best mind state I know with music is one that happens occasionally in sessions with people joining in together. I find it rare but once in a while, everything can sort of just click in a way that the whole thing goes up into a new gear where it feels like the music has taken over the players and everyone is just swept along it.

It's really hard to describe but I know others who have experienced the same.

It ranges for me, some songs remind me of people and how I felt at the time with that person and stops me from liking the song at a later stage even if I thought it was an amazing song first time around.

Mostly songs remind me of how I felt when I first heard them and it's not usually good stuff.

There are many stimuli which remind me of various people/places/periods of time. Not just music, but a taste or smell or a certain seasons/times of the year. Music can be a strong one though.

I think rare with me but the smell of wild garlic will always take me to the entrance of a path in a wood I walked many times...

Aye i'm the same. I don't associate many things with certain smells, but the one's i do are really vivid memories. Like the wet dog smell always reminds me of the labrador i grew up with.

Song remind me of all sorts certain years or periods of my life, films, feelings, there are certain songs or music that I was into that really remind me of the car I had at the time but most of all girl friends.

The amount of songs I hear and I think oh that was her fav or she hated that are untrue but then again I spend so much of my time listening to music it is not surprising.

Its really weird when you hear a song and it reminds you of something, when i was on holiday when i was a kid i heard gala - freed from desire constantly being played. Now whenever i hear it always reminds me of that holiday when i was a kid, strange talking parrots and some british bulldog pub in spain.
