Slow computer

Ok ever since about 2/3 days ago my laptop has been going slow and the cpu has been running at 100%

why?

you said your CPU is at 100%, if you sort processes you CPU usage you will see what is using all the CPU

It's a fairly logic assumption that there is a rogue program(s) using your CPU if it's constantly at 100%. Therefore it would be wise to identify that program...


ctrl + shift + escape, processes, sort by CPU, what process is using your CPU?

This will sort all the processes that are running by order of how much CPU they are using. I would like to know what the top programs are and how much they are using, for example i have:

System idle process 96%
VLC.exe 2%
firefox 1%
taskmgr 1%
then lots of stuff at 0%

It varies alot very rapidly but if you have something eating up your CPU it should be very obvious.

That's resources (ram) he's after your CPU percentage on each process instance. (correct me if I'm wrong)

run a full virus scan + also run and adware removal package such as super anti spyware/SB search and destroy etc..

sounds to me like you have a virus if the cpu is constantly at 100% usage if after the virus scan and spyware scan is complete and its still doing it possibly you may have the vundo trojen virus what hides inside system files and the only way to destroy it is a complete clean install...

press [shift]+[ctrl]+[esc] or [ctrl]+[alt]+[delete]

then click the 'processes' tab at the top, then click the word 'cpu' to order it by cpu usage, then post a screenshot/ copy out the top 5 with their percentages (it isn't displayed as a percentage, just a 2 digit nuber, most processes will be '0')

It lags then it wil be fast then lag then suddenly fast then lag :(

I unistalled the sidebar and now im afast as **** :D

Could you please post me some of your laptop specs? it will help me determine if its either a really slow old model trying to run new powerfull programmes, screenshot of your system and if your PC is virus'd or not, cheers.

Oh and to get rid of the Ctrl + Alt + Del screen all you need to do is go into your desktop, right click the toolbar and change the logon screen, you can get a program that will do this for you if you cannot find it called Tuneup utilities.
