yes you can
but if you can run on different IDE cables, then do.
the only cables that dont come with the motherboard are the power cables, and they come with the PSU

yup, and if there is a floppy slot, then you get a slightly different IDE type cable

nope, not necessarily - depends on the board you chose and whether it was sold as fully packaged, top of the range with every nut and bolt included, or if it was one where the manufacturer was trying to save every penny to bring the cost down.

I got this one https://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spe ... p5p8vm&P=1 (https://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?asu-p5p8vm&P=1) It came with 1 hdd ide 1 floppy and 1 sata. BUT it also arrived with the plastic cpu socket cover floating around!!!!! .It doesnt look like any pins are bent Should i send this straight back or try it fisrt.
Will it damage cpu if they were slightly bent!
Ok, were the CPU goes on a 775 socket mobo, usually the pins are vary good and springy and bent over. Just have a look at the pins to see if they look all fine. Unless some one got hold of a hard disk and some how rammed it onto the mobo boxing and some how hitting a perfect aim on the CPU socket then I don’t see why it would be damaged.
Also on that mobo you have 2 IDE slots. One is primary or IDE-1 (blue one) and the 2nd one is Secondary, IDE-2, and it's usually white or black or what ever colour the manufacture decides to make it.
Now what do you want to fit onto your PC???
Remember that each IDE cable has 2 IDE connections. The connection at the end of the cable goes to the IDE devise that you select Master via the jumper. The middle one down goes to the slave IDE devise that you have selected as slave via the jumpers.
This is the same with the second IDE cable (Secondary)

Im assuming that it would take some force to dislodge the cpu cover witch would mean that it could of bent the pins on its way out. (They look fine but its hard to tell just wanted to know if i put the cpu in and they are slightly out of line will it kill my cpu?
I know that that board has 2 ide sockets but it came with 1 ide lead and i havnt got anouther so just wonderd wether i could run the DVDRW and HDD off the same 1
Iv contacted novatech about the cpu socket and they say it should be fine to put the cpu in but they have made a note of it so if anything does go wrong im coverd

yes you can run a dvd and a hdd on 1 IDE cable
but what most people do is run them on different IDE channels

just explaining my question to GN
The CPU cover can be taken off by my mum farting at it after eating baked beans, or an army of 100 ants trying to comendering it.

i dont really know whats going on but i will take a stab at it.
A little bit of plastic has come out from the ZIF socket?!?
wont take alot, only a little puff of air, or the board being tilted, nothing to be worried about
Tell you what, If your really that worryed about it. Releace the main CPU leaver and pop open the main metal strap thing that holds the CPU in place. Then take a Pic of the pins. Then put it on here or send it to me so that I can have a look at it or ill host the image on my space.

If i cant tell wether the pins are bent from 2inches away I very much doubt you could tell by looking at a picture.
Its all installed now anyway and appears to be fine apart from I got no post. Took out the new cheap Novatech 1GIG stick of ram and put my old pc2100 512 mb ram and it fired up straight away.
