transfer serial to another pc?

Hi, I have a laptop with xp home on it, which is in desparate need of a full system restore, it has a legal serial number on the bottom. The laptop didnt come with a disk for xp home but i do have an xp home disk that came with another pc.

My question-can i reinstall xp home onto my laptop with the disk that i have from another pc? and can i use the serial number that the laptop has written on the bottom of it?

most computers don't come with restore disks any more mate


most of them can be restored by pressing and f key on boot and this will open a menu with restore options

an example would be dell laptops when you press f8 on bootup the boot mode menu has an extra option to restore or repair you can factory reset from here.
