I want to get (if its possible) a product that i plug into my pc (either usb or pci) which i can record freeview from onto my pc hard drive and then hopefully transfer it and watch on my ipod. Is this possible and can anyone recommend the cheapest way? Thanks

Can't help with the transfering to ipod part (unless you give me an ipod and i'll have a play!) but I went for a hauppage freeview tv card - card seems decent enough, just the software is awful!! Cost me about £40. I think you'll find most TV cards will allow direct to HD recording.

quite the opposite - if you then connect it to a laptop, its classed as a portable device and you don't need a tv license for it :D

We have just installed the Leadtek USB TV plug and play from Novatech. The aerial doesn't receive much, but it works connected to an indoor aerial which we have since installed outside under the veranda and its fine.

Good picture and all stations.

Our other computer is fitted with a Pinnacle Media Centre card, which was a lot more trouble having to install it in the tower. We have had a lot of problems with it though freezing up and not recording, but that might be the fault of the computer and not the card.

Plug and play is the much easier option.

With regards to the converting of your recordings to ipod, thats easy, there's plenty of free software that enables you to do that. As the above user stated, with regards to using the aerial that comes with the pnp usb reciever, there is some serious issues with reception area, if your in a weak signal area, then expect low quality, but if you patch it into your communal aerial then reception is greatly enhanced.
