hey,

about a year ago i bought a barebones system from novatech which was AMD athlon 64 3000, and recently i have bought a sata hard drive but it isnt detected. I think i just need the drivers but cant find them or really know which ones i need. the hard drive is detected when i boot up and i can press cntrl + s and go to a utility manager and format it but it still isnt detected anywhere or in disk management. Please help.

Cheers tom.

Well how I would do it is as follows. Connect disk. Check in bios to see if its seen there. Check bios settings are correct (btw, sata = sata and ide hd = pata or ata.). load up HD with o/s. search for new hardware. Install if nessesery the o/s or manf drivers. as i have xp i would right click my computer and click manage. then I would click disk management. then i would instilize the new disk. format as ntfs. then it should show up in my computer and your away.

you've put it on the raid controller, you now need the raid controller drivers, or to put it on a regular sata port. What model is your motherboard?

btw, switching it to a different sata port will be easiest option! if you have two 'blocks' of sata ports on your mobo, try one from the other 'block'

Or you might have the BIOS setting for this set to RAID function. So there for change it to SATA. :D

i've done all of the above. I think i just need the RAID drivers like that guy said, and maybe SATA drivers if there is such a thing? I'm not entirely sure what model my motherboard is, the link to the one i bought is on my first post. But mine was the athlon 64 3000 but i thought it'd be the same mobo. I just couldn't find the drivers.

Do you see this hard disk in the BIOS settting?

Also I dont think any of us know what motherboard it is. Once I have the spec of your Pc im sure that we will have this fixed in no time.

Do you know what motherboard you have? To find this out please open the side of your case. Please dont touch anything inside as we dont want to be help responcible to anything that may go wrong.

Printed on the motherboard near the ram or around that area (center of motherboard sometimes) should be the make of the notherboard and also the type of which it is. eg. ASUS P5P800-VM or GIGABYTE GA-965P-DQ6 etc.... You can see what motherboard I have as it says in my sig. Biostar etc... once we have this info then i will try and see what we can do.

umm, which one?

K8S755A-6LRS
K8S755A-6ELRS
K8S755A-6EKRS

This is the link to the downloads page. You select the mobo on the left.

Well, I have had a look myself and your correct, *** foxconn cant be assed to put the drivers on there website. Do you get a Driver CD with the motherboard? You should have, if not email them and complain like mad, also write them a email or via their site or phone them up and ask them. This is quite dum of them not to have this type of info at out fingure tips.

Hang on, Your only connecting one disk correct??? This is not in a RAID. Then it should work fine. All you need is the windows defult drivers for this.

ive been told by a few people now that i just need the sata drivers for my winfast mobo, the only thing i need to do is find them and then install them. This is what I'm having trouble with. Please can you try and find them? Ive tried looking most places but don't really know where else to look.

That is because you don’t need them.

Windows will automatically install the drive as soon as you boot the PC once you inserted the drive onto your system. Is it powered? Is it connected via a SATA cable onto one of the SATA controllers?

The only time that you will need drivers is when you have a SATA raid installed.

If you don’t believe me then that’s fine with me as I have already recreated your issue with a system close to your spec. I had an IDE HD set to master with in OS installed on it. Then I got a Maxtor SATA hard disk. Installed this onto the motherboard and what not. Powered up the system. Checked that the BIOS saw the drive and made sure the settings were correct. Then booted into windows. Windows said o look, another dive. It then automatically installed the devise drivers for this drive and then said hardware working. I then right clicked my computer and clicked manage. Then I clicked on the option on the left called Disk management. Then I assigned the disk with a letter, partitioned the drive as NTFS and then formatted it. Then it shows up in the my computer section and you can start using the drive.

If you want I will do a step by step instalation of this if no one beleaves me still.

If the BIOS does not see your dive then it would tell me that the sata contoler that you have it pluged into is not turned on, in the BIOS. If the BIOS does not see drive then windows will not. If the BIOS see's the drive then so will windows. Make sure that your settings in the BIOS are correct. That is the only thing I have left to say.

what are the correct settings in bios? and how can i tell whether bios can see the drive or not? i only have one menu for sata in bios and thats whether its ide or raid i think. what is ide?

GN
19-12-2006, 10:33 AM
Set that to IDE, NOT! RAID.

On one of the menu's in the BIOS it should show your optical drives and your other hard disk etc.... Now when you have SATA enabled you will see a fue more listed there as SATA drives etc...

Are you able to take a photo of each screen in the bios for me please and email them to the msn mess address. You only need to take pics of the menu's for the 1st 5 options on the left on your bios main menu.

Then I will ask you to take a few more pics of certan options etc.. and tell you to seclect the correct option etc.. hard long way i know but its the only way.

Iv installed sata drive and Windows picks it up straight away!!! You don't need any specific drivers, if your mobo has sata ports, then you should not need any bios updates at all. Where can you not see the drive being detected? In Windows itself? Or on boot up? In the bios? You should just be able to plug it in and away you go.

I Have the same Novatech motherboard bundle as phatboy1123

M/B: WINFAST K8S755A
CPU: AMD athlon 64 3000
H/D: 2 * 160gb PATA HD
1 * 320 GB Seagate SATA If the MB will recognise it!

I have just bought my first SATA drive and am trying to get the motherboard to recognise it.
It still recognises the PATA drives, but doesn't seem to accept that the new SATA drive exists. (The drive works fine on other systems)

Anyone have any answers?
Do I have to enable anything in the BIOS?
Can this Motherboard boot from a SATA disk?
Why doesn't the Bios recognise the disk?

Any more suggestions gladly recieved!

I have answered my own problem - and it may help you.
On this board, only two of the SATA sockets appear to be descrete - it seem sthat the other two are for the raid option.
Putting the drive onto one of the other two sockets sorted out the problem.. :)

Point taken - it was just that I could only see two ports on the motherboard.
Then I dug out the manual and had my 'Duhhhh' moment!
