View Full Version : DVD playback STOP error
Built a new system, everything works fine apart from when a DVD is played, a few seconds in, a bluescreen STOP error occurs.
I updated the graphics drivers to no avail, and stress tested the CPU, checked temperatures etc..
Games work fine, call of duty 2 no problem. Seems weird that it would crash when decoding a DVD? I thought maybe a software decoding error but its strange for this to cause a STOP error?
My system is AMD 64 X2 3800+, ATI 6800GS, 2GB Crucial RAM.
Any suggestions or comments are most welcome
Many thanks

Have you tried a memory tester?
Sounds like a memory fault could be the cause, see this (http://forum.novatech.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=32) post

What is the actually STOP error code it should be something like 0x00000007a.
Please also provide any associated error message
I've experienced some more STOP errors, some randomly and others when playing back video etc... I have reset the BIOS settings to defaults and it seems stable at the moment.
I tested the RAM and it seems OK, however I am convinced my timing settings are incorrect so I will check them from crucial and see if they are OK. The A8N32-SLI BIOS is quite confusing compared to my previous board!
A weird error I experienced today before I reset to defaults, the system slowed down, literally the music playing started to cut in and out slower and slower, then froze.. strange behaviour, anyone else seen this? I was loading the system but I think it may have been the bridge linkwidth but it's just speculation, i'm not expert with these settings.
The next time I receive a STOP error, I will get the codes for you.

ATI 6800GS
The 6800GS is an Nvidia GeForce card, not ATI.
Doh, my last card was an ATI 9600XT and i always get it confused

What software are you using the DVD Playback and are you doing anything else at the same time?
I sometimes get STOP errors when using Hardware acceleration in Power DVD or if I'm surfing the net at the same time. I've always had ATI cards though.
