Not really sure what's meant but years ago I tried to write something by starting with a repeated drum beat and bass part - with all my other attempts, I started with a melody. With me, I need something I can recognise as a melody (ie.something I could hum or sing to) to go with it and thought I'd see where those parts took me, It wound up like this:

I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to certain things in Music, I have a solid line.

Length has to be at least 6 * 5mins for me to even bother listening if it's classed as "Drum and Bass"...

Just generally it's something that was originally meant to be a little bit longer than your conventional song and flow a bit.

Granted some of the posters here have got it right with SPY, Evol Intent etc.
A thumbs up to that stuff.

are some awesome mixes that will make the 5 min shorts look pants.
Even some of the mixes there get it wrong, in my honest opinion.

Yeah you can say as I primarily listen to metal, rock and things, that I know "nothing" on the subject but I've listen to a lot of, so called, "Drum and Bass".

Most of that is just completely "popular scene", boring, too repetative, many are badly synthed and random effects that spoil them...

None of the recordings for breaksblog are illegal - these are a mixture of live mixes or DJ's own recordings submitted with conscent of their owners or by the owners themselves [as far as I know].

I haven't visited or listened to recent mixes for at least 2 years now.

But I hope I redirect you to some more pure roots and sound.
Of course, make your decision of what is better in your own opinion...
