Essentially what I'm still doing is adding files manually from their location on my hard drive into Winamp's "Playlist Editor" and then playing them. I'm still ripping through my cd collection and having a listen, and there are a lot of songs (i.e. several hundred). More importantly some remixes on an EP I like, some I don't, so I listen to it and then remove what I don't like and leave what I do.

As time's gone on there's a list of all the songs and remixes that I do like in the Playlist Editor and is there anyway in Winamp to create a giant 'rolling' playlist if that makes any sense? Such that then when I rip a new cd and find a few tunes from it I like, they can be added to it as time goes on. I also want to save this playlist in a location where it can easily be backed up.

I'm sure it's pretty obvious but I'm not sure what I'm doing with playlists. It's also because the function to delete a song is right above the option to crop them, which deletes everything.

The nearest thing would be using the rating system...

5 star stuff you reall enjoy and arrange your collections by rating?

Failing that U have to make a Great playlist, drag and drop/add yet more! :(

Hope that kinda helps ...

Ah, I think I've figured it out - "Import Active / Current Playlist" seems to do it.

That seems simple enough, however each time I need to delete the old one. I also can't find out where it saves this list. Edit - yeap I can export the playlist. Thing I've cracked it giggidy.

What is Winamp like? Just out of curiosity. I've always used iTunes.

Winamp is pretty good in my opinion.

Many hate it. Yes, sometimes it has its bad moments where it refuses to load and just crashes.
I like it for the fact that it's fairly minimal compared to using WMP or iTunes.

You can find some nice skins for Winamp to make it more your style if you so choose.
To me as a guitarist the single most useful thing about Winamps fuctionality is the DSP Plugins that you can use.

One that I use is RoniMusic SlowMeDown, fantasic, it slows tracks down without loss of pitch but loss of volume which is VERY useful as a Guitarist if you're listening to a lighning fast solo if I cannot figure it out!

I also have used the SHOUTCast DJ Plugin for streaming on www.planetmosh.com (http://www.planetmosh.com).

Leo's Lyrics Plugin is useful for Lyrics which are easily misheard or if you've forgotten what comes next :D

The free version has slow / no CD ripping available or something.

Just my $0.02.

Jim,
