My new motherboard is saying my processor is being overclocked, how is this possible? After 5 secs the system shuts down. I even tried using default settings via the on-screen menu. I have also moved the jumper to reset the bios but no change.

RMA
thats what i would do

but lets just check a few things
-as full a spec as you can
-temperatures
Is this a pre assembled or self built computer
if self assembled.did this happen on the first boot

I have just found out that the processor which has enough paste on it was not making proper contact with the heatsink, only a small amount of paste was transferred to the heatsink.
I am using artic silver v compound, which is supposed to be good.
I have removed the cpu and cleaned off all the paste and applied some more, should I put a small amount on the heatsink too?
Oh and is there a correct way for the heatsink to be placed(orientation)?

Actually what happened was that I had a barebones system from Novatech that kept blue screening me, turned out the slots were dodgy, so I rebuilt onto a newer Motherboard.
