Hi,

I want to improve my PC and make it a lot faster especially for gaming. Currently I have an Intel Celeron D 2.8Ghz and I believe that upgrading it to a Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz will be a big performance boost. Will it be worth the money?

Also I am not sure if it will work on my motherboard. I think they are the same socket type (LGA 775) so they should be compatible.

Motherboard: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... c28512&P=1 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?mbb-c28512&P=1) (Foxconn 661FX7MI)
Current Processor: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... -c4336&P=1 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?il-c4336&P=1)
P4 Processor: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... IL-PP73064 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?IL-PP73064)

Will that P4 processor be the best upgrade for my money? thanks

what price bracket do you have and its best to follow the rule with processors, if you cant afford an intel core 2 duo go with an AMD (probably the best AMD processor before core 2 duo is the athlon x3800+ which is dual core)

Doubt it will improve much!!!! Buying more ram or upgrading graphics will do the trick. My personal opinion is not to upgrade processor unless you really really want to. I have a P4 3.0ghz and to be honest, I had a sempron 2800 and saw no difference between the two in performance for games anyway. Maybe for converting music/videos it might do increase performance.
