View Full Version : Samsung HDD warranties - not covered due to it being OEM?
Just asking...
I have a clients pc here which they were supposed to return to you months ago (while it was in warranty with yourselves) due to the hard drive having issues. They neglected to do so which is their own fault.
Am I correct in the assumption that as Novatech bought the drive from Samsung as OEM equipment that samsung will not want to deal with it and that I best be getting a new one ordered?
Thanks :)

Samsung are usually very helpful and i would personally say to contact them at least to start with on 0845 7267864 as if you can save yourself a new purchase it'd be worth a shot.

No that's not the case, Dan. Novatech will take it back and send it back to their suppliers or to the manufacturer for you and they will take it from there. One problem is that it can take upto 28 days so if your customer doesn't mind waiting, that's the best thing to do.
lol :D
um, in this instance i'd follow Steve-o's comment :D technically novatech only offer a 1year on oem goods, (although in the past they have been brilliant for me too) :) Theoretically, sending it directly to samsung should be faster though, will cut out 1 middleman.

i am sure you will be able to deal with samsung directly through www.samsung.com/uk/, all other drive manufacturers will deal with OEM drives.
the samsung site says hard drives have a 36 month warranty so if you have any issues dealing with them directly if you call tech support on 0871 222 1212 or use tech support live chat we can look into dealing with the return for you. if its dealt with by us we have to quote up to 28 days repair time so i woudl try contacting samsung first as they will be quicker if they can deal with it.

Samsung's RMA's go throught here (http://www.rexo.co.uk/). However,:
Note that we cannot accept OEM drives for warranty service. For warranty service on OEM drives please contact your computer's manufacturer. You can determine if your drive is an OEM drive by looking at the model number. If the model number contains /SCC, /OMD, /NBM or /DOM then it is an OEM drive.
IIRC, My samsung drive was OEM, however, it didn't have any of those number above.
TO CHECK WARRANTY:

Type in Serial,
Let us know how you get on.
Awesome :)
Samsung don't see it as an OEM drive and have given me an RMA already, anybody know how long it's likely to take them to get me a replacement once I ship the old one to them? Now to find enough space to back the old data up to :(
Thanks all :)

I've heard all but good things. A guy I know off the ebuyer forums got it in like 3 days IIRC.

EU law says that everything has a 2 year warranty, whatever it is, it has not been fully adopted into the uk, but some manufacturers accept that and refund
