sound problem with laptop...

hi i have a prob with my laptop....usually i could plug in an external speaker/headphones at anytime when my laptop on, but now the sound doesnt come through....unless i restart the laptop with the device plugged in....

can anyone help/reccomend any steps i can take, so i can plug the headphones for example at any stage

Wow random, all I could think it might be is that the drivers are being unloaded. Try installing them again? I sorta had a similar problem with my creative live! sound card on my old mobo. It would either crackle of unload the drivers for some reason
