I'm trying to up upgrade an old P2 PC by installing a new/additional WD 80Gb hard disc but the PC doesn't see the disc on boot up. (Tried all jumper positions and a new IDE cable) The PC runs XP perfectly well on the original 8Gb drive. Any advice would be appreciated. Bit of a novice so plain English would be good.

with that age of computer, you could really be looking at all sorts of incompatibilities. Is it found in the BIOS? Does it work on another machine?

is it formatted/partitioned (i.e shows up in windows with a drive letter)

you should probably be trying bios updates too

well i'd certainly suggest trying on a newer machine if you can, just to make sure the drive is fine.
