Hi everyone!

I bought one of these COSSFIRE II AMD64 3200 60G 1024 over 3 years ago. I am thinking about getting a new machine but I have been attracted to getting a solid state hard drive to speed up loading of an OS and then an external Hard drive for holding music photos etc.

If I want to get a laptop with a built in ssd it will cost around £1k but if I just get a ssd I can pick one up from £100.

So my question is, will a 2.5" ssd drive fit in my old lappy?

Thanks

ryan

Thanks

As long as the laptop is using a SATA drive then any SATA drive for a laptop form factor will fit, considering all SATA SSD's are that form factor I cant see it being a problem.

What OS are you currently running Ryan? If it's XP or Vista, then really, you don't want to be running either a pagefile or SuperFetch if you do get one. Windows 7 is most optimised for SSDs, and will support upcoming features such as TRIM. However, I'd be tempted to upgrade your RAM if possible first, as 1GB with an SSD seems a bit imbalanced... it will also mean you'll have to have a pagefile, which may kill your SSD in time :(

Don't forget to disable background disc defragmentation if you do put in an SSD.

Thanks Fatal and Mike.

I am running Vista and will then be running Windows 7 in the near future. I dont think I am able to upgrade my RAM any higher then 1gb. i was hoping speed up the loading of my OS with a SSD. I am trying to do it all on a budget but I think I am just going to have to bite the bullet and buy a new machine.
