I've just received today's newsletter and there's a competition for an Intel i7-870. The link is invalid (at least for me). Anyone else?

yeah got the same problem myself, think it might have to do with the amount of posts you have made on the forum. as thats been the case before here I think.

You need a certain amount of posts to view the Competition Forum. The figure is 50 IIRC.

It doesn't seem right that we should be tempted into the forum with the chance of winning an i7 870 cpu, to then find we need 50 posts (when in the email, it says you only need an account to enter the competition). Please could you correct this Novatech?

I'd have thought the competition was to try to bring in more forum users? I'm already feeling conned - why should I hang around?

Conned?

It's a great forum, ne of the best. Loads of banter and a great laugh to be had here;)

Conned because I joined so I could enter the comp. I would then no doubt give the forum a once over, and decide if I should stay. I used to be a regular member at the Custom PC forums until they were merged with Bit-Tech... some forums suit some people, others suit others...

i.e........I want an i7 870!

Well give it a try, I'm sure you'll love it;)

Oh, and there's free next day delivery for loyal forums members (50 posts).

Yeah I noticed that, but it takes 50posts every 3 months - which could be quite a bit of work should I not "fit in"... what if the others don't like me?

I can see it's quite a comprehensive forum...

Everyone loves everyone else on this forum

It is very easy to post 50 posts every 3 months and as long as its not spam your onto a winner . You will see what Im on about in a month as I predict you will be on well over 100 posts as your on 6 in a day already

Yeah, but most of my 6 (now 7) posts are me bitching right here.... I doubt you want that to keep up...

Either way, I wonder if it would be possible for novatech to sort out the competition page - as it does say on their email that we only need an account to enter the competition, nothing about 50+ posts or alike.

I'm going to give the forum the benefit of the doubt, however I don't think it looks good on Novatech misleading the e-mail-e-readers...

Seems a bit silly that they don't mention the 50 post limit on the error page you get - all you get is the rather vague "Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page". So you have to root around to see if anyone else is having the same problem and hope for a helpful user like aaron333

Though by asking for helping it does boost your post count by 1 :-)

When i started i thought "Wow its gunna be hard to do 50 a month lol" but here i am 3ish months later with like 900 :D

And of course we all love each other here :D even if we dont always strictly see eye to eye

The competetition forum is like a bonus of staying here long enough to hit 50 posts :D

So even if you cant enter this one i can guarantee there will be another one along soon enough :D

Shall point this to the Admins on Moday when they are back in the office and try and get it sorted .

For the mean time though have a ganders round the forum and make yourself's at home for a while

Cheers Skywalker,

I wouldn't mind if the email said "For current forum members only" or something, it's just well.... It is a little misleading atm.

Either way, I'm sure Novatech will sort it out - as I've found my past dealings with them as a retailer to be perfectly good.

And I'm already trying to settle in - these forums are quite a bit more active than Bit-Tech seems to be, whilst also being a bit more interesting :P

We are slowly picking up at the moment as everyone is back from holidays and kids back at school (thank god I say)

All I ask is to brush up on the forum rules and enjoy yourselfs

If I had my way competitions would be for people with 2,000+ posts thus to benefit those who have been loyal/dedicated people on the forums over the months/years.

Although I can see the other point but another option would be to provide an order number which it states anyway, but I would make it "an order number from within the last 12 months"

Thus excluding yourself from competitions?

Thus excluding yourself from competitions?Indeed why not, Im looking at this from a neutral aspect not from a personal perspective.

I would run the odd competition for absolutly everyone then run compeitions for people who have made a good contribution to the forums i.e. 500 or 1000 or 2000 posts, that way it gives more reason for people to contribute & be regular readers/posters to the forums.

The above will make the forums even more likeable if theirs say 100+ people on through the day.

Just my thoughts anyway.

Some people are heavily respected and very useful by only having a 10 post p/month count, as most of the time - they only speak when they are going to be helpful, or have something useful/important to say. This would cut them out. I used to notice one or two people on the old CustomPC forum who would only post when being helpful, and their names were recognised as contributors....

if you see my point?

Thats the same link as posted at the start of the thread :D and once again same reason :D you need over 50 posts under your belt in order to be able to view the competition forum :D

Bit of a screw up by the email people putting that in without specifying that you need 50 posts to view/enter it :D

There are a lot of us who are long standing customers who visit these pages but do not feel the need to comment 50 times a month. Longstanding customers should not be penalised because we only read, we still spend. :(

I agree its not a perfect system, perhaps it should be tied not only to your post count but also to the amount of orders youve made in the last 3 months, i mean there is already a thing to link our forum accounts with out novatech buying accounts

BTW Skywalker - I'm loving your Sig - Honda Accord Type R

My mate has one in black(he's also got the 5 door ITR DC2 in white (I can't remember the specific model, but it is like the DC2, with 2 extra doors :P), and a *mint* CRX in black) I am jealous of his garage!

I too was confused by the email from Novatech this morning. I clicked on the link, it failed, I signed up to the forum and thought that would entitle me to enter. But I kept getting the message:

johnniegif, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Hoping there was some delay in my forum permissions, I went out for the day, came home, tried again and the same message comes up. So I went on a hunt for the answer, ending up here.

I am a long term customer of Novatech but haven't used the forums as yet. I would think that 50 posts by Tuesday would be considered spamming!

Is the owner of the Accord on the owners website ?

Like jonniegif, I too signed up to enter the competition ... had the same problem with the link not working ... but then found this thread about needing 50+ posts. :(

Feel a bit conned as, at the very least, the terms & conditions should've been visible on the competition announcement page that I saw.

Here's hoping the admins allow us newbies to enter it on Monday :D

No I don't think so, he's usually too busy to use forums! :P

I myself am shamefully part of the *cough*clio*cough*sport*cough*.net forums.
More there for the banter than the clio-ness (was helpful thought when installing a aftermarket HU :P)

Which Accord owners club are you talking about btw? (I imagine there'll be a few)

Out of interest, I've just totted up 32 orders and £3415.78 since 2003. I'd say that was reasonable proof of a loyal customer, yet no competition for me. Boo to you, Novatech.
