Hi all,

Have a snagging issue on upgrading a fresh copy of XP onto a PC-0840T. Basically it initially stalls on copying files from the XP CD (Yes tried 4 different XP cd's now) It fails on drivers nikedrv.sys, spnikedrv.sys, rio8drv.sys and riodrv.sys to name a few, so to get round this, format HD and do fresh install.

Now, it copies all files aok, on booting into XP after first lot of installs, it comes back with BSOD 0x00000050, then 0xFFFFFFE8. Redone everything again, now have 0x00000050 with 0xC13FB57C.

Its a winfast board with an amd processor, seatching support.microsoft.com for the errors above, and its none of the resolutions on M$.

So the question is what on the mobo would be causing this to happen? Has anyuone inc. Novatech had this problem? is this motherboard XP compatible, machine is 12 odd months old and had WIN2K on it hence the question above?

Thanks,

Chris

:? BUMP

29 People read this thread, hopefully someone from Novatech and not a sausage...

Well tried to install WIN2K on this machine which was already installed on it prior to upgrade, and it wont install either. SO now pointing to hardware failure of some description.

Will try low level format of drive to rule that out, can novatech please tell me what the WinFast motherboard is they used on this model as it isnt stamped ont he board?

Cheers,
Chris

It sounds like a ram problem to be honest, has any ram been added to the PC in its life time?

Problem solved, thanks for the response regarding the RAM, it wasnt that...

Great motherboard and processor configuration chaps, NOT...

Way round problem, run XP install, when asked to press F6, dont, instead press F5 to force HAL change, select HAL Standard PC as this configuration of machine thinks on an XP install with SP2 its a C486 install....... Great these AMD processors....

Anyways do the above, it removes the ACPI, but it installs and works..
