i havent heard anything like that
and if it were true, then yes, it would be slower than internal RAM because it has to go through the usb port then to the motherboard

ah you are talking about the new speedy special thing in Vista (thats not the real name obviously) it basically uses the pen drive to store the data you use the most and some stuff for boot up for faster read and write times than getting it from the hdd

but that is internal, and doesnt have to go through the usb ports etc, plus if you can afford a 1GB memory stick, then you can afford 1GB RAM, the cheap stuff though

lol

Its called erm, speedy ram thing, and it basically sticks your page file onto your USB mem stick rather than your HD. And not all memory sticks are slow... Some are being marketted directly to this now, the 'red' corsiar voyagers, I think they are GT or something?

erm, ready boost.

Tho I think speedy ram thing is much more catchy.

Atleast I read it as your pagefile, hmmm - wonder if that works like that under XP, tho I imagine it would kill off your drive pretty fast.

i wouldnt mind a flash HDD. they cost a lot though and are pretty awful atm... ready boost could be good on my 4gb SD :D

i think samsung are working on some 32 and 76 gb hybrid drives which are basically a normal hdd with a memory stick built in for faster booting they should be pretty good they dont cost a bomb either
