Rite my new pc's speed is getting rather old now so im thinking of overclocking my pc. At the moment i've got
c2d 6300 @ 45 degrees with freezer pro 7 aftermarket cooler
Asrock Xfire mobo @ 266mhz fsb and 43 degrees
ebuyer value ram ddr2-4300 dual channel at 1:1 ratio
as this is my first time overclocking im wondering what temperature to stop at and such. I was hoping for a overclock to 2.5mhz from 1.86mhz.
Tips, guidance, opinions and guides are welcome

ghz then :P  and well i got 2 pieces of software and one said my cpu was running at 22.5 and the other said 40 :S so i duno i was guna say about 60 would have been alright if it really is running at 45 degrees atm

look in bios for the true temp :) 60 is rather hot. i dunno but myself would never go over 48 otherwise you'll fry it!

the bios will show the motherboards sensor that is near the cpu socket, it wont be the true temp
the max temp i would say is 60C maximum
try to lower the cpu voltage a step or 2, this will lower the cpu temp, and after lowering the voltage, run a very stressful app/game that will test the cpu to its limits.
if the compy reboots with the lower voltage then shove it back up

its @ 1.2 sumthin atm

that didnt really answer the question....

hmmm, thats quite low, dont think putting it any lower will effect it at all
try opening a window, shoving fans on max and turn all radiators off
do you want it at max oc all the time
if not, turn on intels equiv of cool n quiet, it should keep it cooler while doing menial tasks like word n internet
then when going into games it will pump the cpu back to normal

ok so back on topic. try to postion an exhaust fan behind ure heatsink as this helped a lot with my AC freezer.

if i was you id invest quite a bit in fans :)
JDowdall
21-01-2007, 09:56 AM
well once i have these two 60 mm fans in that wil be all i can fit in the case without driloling holes in it it's got a 80mm at the front atm
teknokid
21-01-2007, 10:14 AM
use cable ties to put them in !

what case do you have at the moment
u thought about going to water??
teknokid
21-01-2007, 12:00 PM
that would be rather expensive.
JDowdall
21-01-2007, 12:30 PM
atm i have a http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/120374/rb/24618843854 and watercooling would be too expensive considering now i'm not buying anything for my computer until i've bought a xbox 360, 26" lcd hd ready tv and a laptop lol
teknokid
21-01-2007, 12:41 PM
how long will that take? besides the cooler you (and i atm) have got is good.
JDowdall
21-01-2007, 01:08 PM
that will probably take about 1 and a 1/2 years :( :x

tehe
you do know that there are better coolers than the one u have
just to burst your bubble
also, try getting some artic silver 5 thermal paste, surposed to be the best
you could try lapping your cpu and heatsink, this will lower temps too
teknokid
21-01-2007, 02:35 PM
they're cheap though :D
JDowdall
21-01-2007, 03:02 PM
but if i get a better cooler it will mean spending an extra £30 and i'd be left with a perfectly good £20 cpu cooler not doing much. the cpu cooler came with some arctic silver paste on it so i doubt it would lower temps that much and what do you mean lapping my heatsink and cpu?
teknokid
21-01-2007, 03:03 PM
dunno. perhaps strap some more fans to it?
JDowdall
21-01-2007, 03:11 PM
where! there are no slots left
Taxation
21-01-2007, 03:26 PM
lapping is where you sand down the cpu and hs/f to make them smoother and therefore better at transfering heat.
it is only done when all else fails :D
JDowdall
21-01-2007, 03:44 PM
they are pretty smooth at the moment! that is a bit extreme. i think it could be a problem with air flow through my case caused by the millions of wires coming off the psu of which only need about 4 what could i do about these. Also i have two empty 5 1/2" slots on the front of my computer would a cooler like this help with that http://www.maplin.co.uk/search.aspx?MenuNo=54428&MenuName=Case+Cooling&worldid=-3&FromMenu=y&doy=21m1

surposed to lower temps by alot
JDowdall
21-01-2007, 05:01 PM
lol i reli need to get down to maplins where does that fit in the computer exactly?
Taxation
21-01-2007, 07:36 PM
in one of the optical drive spaces (5.1/2")
JDowdall
21-01-2007, 07:39 PM
hmm mayb i could get 1 of those blue things and the white fan thing and put those in i'd spray them black as well
Taxation
21-01-2007, 08:10 PM
to be honest, the blue thing would be enough, my mate who works there, he used it in his pc and it lowered temps by about 5C, ambient case temp, you can actually feel that the air is colder when it comes out
JDowdall
21-01-2007, 08:53 PM
well it wojnt hurt to get both :) i'll get the blue thing first then i'll see what temps i'm getting, what can i do about all this excess cabling?
Taxation
21-01-2007, 09:02 PM
shove it where you cant see it
use zip ties
use celotape
use shoe string :D
JDowdall
21-01-2007, 09:34 PM
you said it went in a 5 1/2" port i'll just spray it black so it blends in
Taxation
21-01-2007, 10:13 PM
but then you might get paint on one of the joints/ inside the bearings which would harm the performance

why not get some filter material and cover it up with that, then it will be filtered and black :D

ooo arent we fancy, doesnt a rag count as filter material  :P

JDowdall
