Need some advice on whether I have a dead board or not?
I bought a barebones from Novatech on wednesday and opened it up this evening to build up a new system. I put in a new sata HDD (WD 160GB), a red wing 80mm fan to replace the exisiting case fan and a dvd-rom.
It booted up first time and I started a fresh format and install of vista home and it began to install but hung before I could format the HDD.
After a reboot it POST but came up with a CMOS checksum error and stopped.
Now it will not POST at all. I get a black screen and nothing.
The case fan, cpu fan, HDD and DVD drive all have power and run but nothing.
Is my mobo dead? Is there something to check that I haven't?
For reference its a Foxconn M61PMV and a Phenom II X4 810 with 4GB ram
(Novatech order code BB-8104G)
Never had a brand new board never POST at all.
Cheers in advance for the help

You may get better help posting in the customer support section, just as a tip :D

This, dont forget to move the jumper to clear cmos and return it again. I usually find this enough, without the need to remove the battery and wait.

I've tried the CMOS jumper, to no avail, but not taken out the battery yet. Will try it.
Sorry if this thread was posted in the wrong section.

If the CMOS clear doesn't work then it's a definate RMA job, only a dead board or a dodgy bios flash could cause a checksum error afaik.

Cheers for the thread move.
I pulled the battery and it went through POST first time after it was put back in. However I had taken out the HDD and optical drives so it was just CPU, RAM and Fans so couldn't do much.
Put in the optical drive and again it went through POST fine and registered that it had a vista disc to boot from.
Put in the new HDD and tried to boot up and it failed to POST - black screen again.
Any ideas?

Go into BIOS, load defaults, save and exit. Then try.
Sounds like the HDD could be causing the issue.

Its a brand new HDD (not even formatted yet) so don't know why it should cause an issue.
The board will not POST now at all.

Just because it's new does not mean it is not faulty. I have built a number of machines recently and two new hd failed. Seagate Barracuda 250 gb satas. I don't recommend them!

The entire bundle was replaced this morning without a fuss after an online chat to Technical Support (thanks Mike on Technical Support!) with a suspected faulty psu or cpu power connector. I didn't have a spare PSU to check this so they replaced the lot.
Got the replacement home and up and running within an hour or so - so pleased with that.
I also got a few extra SATA cables that happened to rattling around the case (along with the missing expansion slot covers possibly hinting that the case had been used elsewhere) but not too bothered by that
Now I got to wait for some more cash to upgrade the PSU and the HD4350 that's in it.
Cheers for all the help, advice, etc!
You're welcome re livechat :)
