View Full Version : Windows 7 RC Plea
Hey Guys,
I'm new around here, so here goes;
I have seen the other topic on windows 7 rc, but I wanted to ask if anyone out there has an iso of windows 7 rc, or knows where I can get one without torrenting it, would it be possible to send it?
Thanks in advance

Have you already got a key for it, then?

What wrong with a torrent?

Guys, Torrenting is a tricky subject. I don't think Novatech would appreciate it if it was promoted on their forums.
Microsoft are letting people download Win7 Enterprise with is basically RTM and it can be used for 90 days.

It's illegal and discussion of piracy is not tolerated on this forum.

Who says it's illegal to download a copy of software for which you have a valid licence? It's not really clear if it's illegal or not, and it certainly isn't immoral or wrong in any way. Uploading can always be turned off ;)

If you download a torrent which includes a license from somewhere other than Microsoft, then it's piracy. That's the view this forum takes. Novatech will not be associated with anything looking remotely like piracy so we will err on the side of caution and anything we deem unsuitable will be removed.

Torrenting itself isnt wrong, its the proliferation of things that shouldnt be spread in ways like torrenting without express permission of the copyright owners. Unfortunately, because it has been abused in this way so much, just the mention of torrenting attarcts alot of unwanted attention. A shame really, but also absolutely necessary I suppose - certainly dont want anything less than savoury on our nice little forum...
:)
(That sounds unbelievably sarcastic - it really isnt meant like that!)
I always prefer authorised methods of acquiring stuff anyway, dont know what you're gonna end up with on torrenting, and its not like you can complain to anyone if you get stung?
Thanks guys,
yes I do have a key, but I have had a look and I really dont want to download a torrent, cause most of them have been tampered with.

Sorry, the Windows 7 RC is no longer available for download. If you’ve got the download and need a product key, they’ll be available until October 21, 2009.
does anyone have a disc they could make a iso of (imgburn) then send to me?
Thanks

How long do you need Win7 installed for? I posted a link to WIn7 RTM Enterprise that lasts for 90 days.
I need the disc to repair a current installation, so...

Ok. You can make a recovery disk within Windows 7 if you can get into windows. See here (http://forums.techarena.in/guides-tutorials/1114725.htm).

Using torrents is not illegal. I'd also like you to specify more clearly "discussion of piracy is not tolerated on this forum~" as the way you have written it is a bit general.

Let's face it, the majority of torrents are illegal. You can't blame nova for not wanting any talk of it on their forums;)

Well yes I can actually because the torrent protocol is not illegal to use. It's as simple as that. I'm not suggesting we all talk about obtaining copyrighted/illegal material via torrents, that would be silly.

I agree with couresemyhorse the torrent protocol is not illegal. As long as people are not downloading illegal stuff, But if the moderators on this forum dont want any posts about this subject then thats fine.
As long as things are kept legal its fine.
Yes methods of data transfer are not in my book topics of non discussion.
Links to illegal content is not tolerated
Links to sites with Links to illegal content is not tolerated
Links to hacks is not tolerated
Links to warezs site is not tolerated
Links to anything to circumnavigate protection measures is not tolerated
Links to downloads of copyrighted music/video/literature is not tolerated... but links to legit sites like Itunes is ok.
Telling somebody how to install & set up Torrent based software is ok...
...However links to torrent file sites will be prohibited when content offered is illegal.
Just common since... but any links bordering on linking to inappropriate content or mentioning site that have content to inappropriate content will be removed from these forums.

All of those seem completely reasonable and as you say common sense. Not sure about the "links to hacks" though - sounds a bit grey.

All fair enough but I do not think this goes quite far enough. I do think we should not be allowed to "discuss" (not just simply post links to) media or any content which is obtained through nefarious means. There are other places for that sort of thing.

What exactly do you mean?
We shouldn't be allowed to facilitate it, or promote it, but discussion should be encouraged, as all types of discussion should be.
Discussions on the morality of it, the extent of the problem, the implications that it has on the creative industries and the economy, the legislation aimed at preventing it at the consequences that has. These are all extremely current topics which regularly feature on the news, preventing discussion of it would be very chinese.

I feel there is a time and a place to say "I just downloaded xxxx dvd rip" or "I watched such and such through naughty means". I feel this is not one of them. While of course there should be free speach to a point but we should not be seen as condoning or promoting piracy through discussions on these boards.

Indeed, it certainly should not be allowed. I have seen a number of posts like this recently.
End of the day...Its at the users risk if they say such a thing then that warrents an admission of guilt/wrong doing just like stupidly saying you did as an example 100mph in a 50 zone.
End of the day this is a public forum and accountable in law if the Police decided they wanted to take action Nova would have to comply with any police request for Email & IP address.
Simple as.

I have a confession to make.
I used to record Technotronic songs onto cassette tape from a pirate radio station back when I was a kid living in London (Big shout going out to the Lady Ace! LoL). Sometimes I would even distribute these tapes to mates afer school...
I repent my sins and just wanted to get it off my chest...
;)
Fully on Snake and PMM's side with this though - I'm not interested in people who steal when they could afford to buy. S'just all wrong...
It's their board, we play by their rules.

Very true!
I see there is a, now locked, thread opened by Vic requesting dialogue on this very issue. I think it was locked as it seemed to be turning into a bit of a *** for tat argument, even though the mods had tried giving a final answer, but I suppose it cant be summed up any better than your post above - It's their board, we play by their rules. We dont like it, we dont have to take part.
