Well, if I don't say anything I don't think you will ask.

Your literature states that this product will Activate.
I have just installed Vista SP1 and now my PC reports that i cannot activate - the product key is invalid.

You are in breach of the trade description act. it will cost me an additional £69.48 to get a new activation key.

i shall be claiming this from Novatech
I shall be reporting Novatech to Microsoft for piracy and i shall be suing for distress and wasted effort

Nothing in my dealings with Novatech has ever suggested to me that they are crooks, my friend.

Get in touch with them and sort it out! :P

if the product key was invalid (which i am sure it wont be) you would have had problems from day one, not after installing SP1. i assume with all this wasted time you have talked to someone at microsoft and who have confirmed there is a problem or have you just tried the automated online system?

There is an easy way around it, use the automated phone system, I used it and it said: Thank-you for activating your copy of Windows XP... I am using Vista dumb nuts.. (not any more, Vista blows :D)

I really think your threat is completely worthless, whatever lawyer you have - I don't think you would win a case over distress and wasted effort. In fact, don't make threats - or maybe a company could threaten you?

Nick.

Re OEM Vista Actuation

I recently purchased an x60 laptop without OS from Novatech and purchased an OEM copy of Vista Ultimate which I loaded and activated with no problems. HOWEVER due to numerous crashes and reinstalls and running past the activation due date I am now left with a system which cannot be activated whether via website or telephone (step2 contains no ID numbers).

As soon as Microsoft CSR transfer telephone support to their Support Centre and they find out that although its a valid product key it's an OEM key they will provide no further support without charging me £46 for the privilage or telling me to buy a full retail version.

Now initially I was quite happy to lose Microsoft and Novatech support backup by buying an OEM version as I assumed I could always reinstall a crapped out program and debug myself, BUT for microsoft to stop me using a valid license because either the number of re-installations were excessive or the activation date was missed on one of those reinstalls really ###### me off.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get some value out of the £148+ I've spent on the OS.

I 've already had to purchase a new copy of windows XP and was installing a dual boot system when all this happened.

Any Suggestions Guys?

Wait. So because you didnt activate before the (30days?) activation period then the key will no longer work?

Sorry for the rant,:(

Bit the bullet once more and did a full reinstall of Vista Ultimate and went to activation status uder system tools and attempted to activate on line once more.

This time it came back with Activation Successful ....and I didn't even have to enter the product key it recognised it from an earlier install :-?

So Microsoft Tech Support was not even prepared to advise me to try and install it again without money upfront

Baggpuss,
You dont get 30days with Vista ,you get
ONLY 3 DAYS before it automatically activates (if selected)
If you don't select automatic activation and go past the 3 day period its likely you'll end up in the same situation as me.
