How come you went for a 280? Did you not fancy working your magic on a 4870, or even a 4870x2? 280 obviously a better card than the 4870, I can see that :)

I managed 830/1080 on a 4850 after modding the bios, but this 4870 isn`t stable at those clocks, more voltage headroom on the 4850, maybe I`m answering my own question! :D

My HD4870 isn't stable at 800mhz core unfortunately, its realy annoying. 15,979 was with 790/1025 IIRC, I've got the Gen2 card which is sapphires latest offering with its fancy cooler.. v.bad clocking cards if you ask me.

They've changed the PCB, the card has analogue VDDCs so you can't measure the temps, the 4 red leds on the back have been replaced by three green ones.. so I reckon they've restricted how high the cards clock :(

I'm retarded...I'm using firefox and must have accidentally zoomed in the other night when I was drunk and it saved the setting.

And I needed an upgrade because I bought a 23" Samsung with 2048x1152 and although the 512mb 4870 handled most things fine I did notice some slowdowns in a few instances. I also wanted a change :p I was looking at the 4870x2, 4850x2 and 4870 1gb but a GTX 280 popped up and I couldn't say no.

And I had 2 of those new Sapphire 4870s to play with last week and it did 850/1000 no prob? The memory seems to be of a lower grade than before as mine did 1100, but with gDDR5 you're not too lacking for the bandwidth.

I must have a bad card then, anything 800 or over and VPU recover kicks in during gaming and Furmark.

I've tried clocking through Rivatuner and CCC, someone over on that other forum has the same thing.

I emailed Sapphiretech as at one point I was getting VPU recover kicking in during desktop, they sent me a new bios and I flashed the card but it still doesn't like going to 800 or over :(

Dual fan cooler ;) I`m not too fussed about getting too much out of mine, only gaming at 1680 x 1050. Mind, iirc I was on Cat 8.9s when I was messing about with it, might have another go for a larf :)

Temps.. are around 60 on the GPU, I will post up some GPU-Z Readings, just need to boot into windows and find the log file :)

gurusan, major apologies here. I got my figgers mixed up :oops:

For the 4850, modded bios gave me 750/1080. It was the 1Gb variant which is why perhaps the memory oc was a little unkind. :rolleyes:

no worries 750mhz is still quite good on stock voltage, i could only do 710mhz on stock volts with my 4850..had it clocked 880/1150 though at 1.39V

The best I've achieved with 3DMark06 is 15303. I've quite happy with this considering that my 8800GTS (G92) 512MB card is now over a year old. When I upgrade the card in perhaps the next 1 year I'd like to think it may jump up to 18k + perhaps. This is running 32-bit Windows XP.

Rebooted and re-ran and got 21,557 :D

Had a few issues with drivers on Windows 7 and Sli but was recommended i try the 185.02 beta drivers which work a treat so once i get the gpu blocks fitted i can get on with overclocking which i'm not that good at tbh :oops:
