I tried to install GTA 4 on the Windows 7 beta and was unsuccessful, so just played it on the XP installation.
As we now have the RC, I decided to try again. Everything installed OK but when I tried to launch the game Kaspersky decided to quarantine the GTA exe file due to a suspicious registry value.
I tried to restore the file without success and also add it to trusted applications but Kaspersky expects a password to verify. I cannot for the life of me remember giving a password when I installed it, so am wondering if there is a default. A google search took me to torrent sites so I thought I would throw it open to the peeps on these forums instead. The official Kaspersky technical support site doesn't even list this version, so no help there either. :surrender:

Solution: Drop Kaspersky like a "£$%ty nappy :) My dad used it for 3 months and then removed it,
if you are still fussed about having Anti-virus software just install Avast Home edition.
As for getting the EXE there is most likely a Quarrentine directory. Apparently the files are "qkl" extension.
If it has just renamed and moved the file the way to find it it is it will either be the only file in the quarentine directory or you'll have to find it by file size or use a Hex editor to find the file which starts with "PE [blargh] This cannot be run in DOS Mode" in its header...
Failing that we always have the internet where we can recover said EXE.

It's the first time that I have had trouble with the Kaspersky, so I looked for a workaround rather than replacing the AV. Probably go with the free Microsoft one that Snakedoc posted recently.
Getting the exe file is no bother, I can just run a repair installation of the game.
Thanks for taking the time with your reply.

Jim,
Kapersky is one of the best available, much better than avast.

With no way of getting around the password I have uninstalled the Kaspersky and installed Microsoft's Security Essentials.
After running a repair installation of GTA 4 I can now, happily, report that the game runs smoothly.
