Sales Order Number: 2558153
PC-10003VP

Can't find stock code on invoice.

I have only had the PC a few days.

Three Issues currently that are pressing - any idea welcome:
1) Reboot: When rebooting from Vista or even just hitting the 'reset' button it does not reboot.
2) The sound in vista often stutters and is annoying. It also has trouble playing music and doing 'other things' - like writing a word document.
3) Sometimes when logging in the display goes blank, and then returns and it says that the display driver has failed and restarted. It only happens sometimes but is annoying.

Any suggestions?
Thanks :?

It also cannot seem to write large DVD's to the DVD writer using Vista. It hangs in the end and fails and seems to require a power off to go again.

I attempted to write a 2G DVD but it 'stopped' writing (the DVD light was off) after about 3 mins. I left it for 2 hours but nothing changed so I had to switch the machine off (nothing else worked).

It seems to be vista that the problem but it could be the hardware or drivers etc. I have tried it with about 3 disks (all now duff) and it did similar each time. It has even done it with a CD.

I an seriously unimpressed with Vista.

Please help with fixing this - or can you provide XP instead?

... :(

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but for once i'm not leaping onto the vista bandwagon so haven't learnt the ins and outs and whaere the problems could be - your best bet is google in all honesty, and driver/firmware etc updates.

Hello to you.

1) When you say the "reset" button, are we talking about the HARD button reset or the SOFT restart from the start menu within Vista?

2) For the sound, try reinstalling the drivers OVER the top of the current drivers using the motherboard CD. It may be they simply need reinitialization.

3) Vista does make the screen flash sometimes when its starting up and the drivers for ALL graphics cards are a little behind. You may need to wait for the latest drivers to appear from the manufacturers. Try removing your display driver from DEVICE MANAGER and maybe Windows will reinstate it correctly after.

If you still have no luck then you need to get in touch with us so we can get the PC back for testing.

Kind Regards

1) The soft restart from vista was the main point at the time - but ironically the reset button on the h/w doesn't seem to work either mostly...umm.....

2) OK - I will try and reinstall - but the motherboard CD drivers are for 'XP' not Vista and so not sure what the effect will be....

3) OK - I will try removing it and see what Vista does - I think you are right about the drivers being not up to scratch yet - I expect it is just that as it is intermittant but will give it a go.

Its rather annoying having to do all these 'fixes' for what seems to be mostly because of a Vista - arrrgg Microsoft releasing things that don't work or don't have drivers!

Any ideas on the DVD issue - shall I remove the drivers for this also and left vista reset it?

Thanks for the suggestions.

In all fairness, Microsoft don't write drivers for other companies :) Blame the other companies for not having patched up/created drivers yet. They will be developed for sure, its just time. (Unless they don't want to sell their stuff to vista users)

Hmmm, think thats the first time i've defended Microsoft... Think I need to go lie down, feeling faint...

1) No progress on reset or restart in Vista
2) Tried motherboard CD drivers - they failed to install
Rolled back and the sound 'improved' - ie. it doesn't stutter ALL the time but just a bit. Not really that good but better than before. Nowhere near as good as my old 4* less powerful system running XP.

3) Removed driver and Vista did reset it. No problems so far since but then it was intermittant. Will keep an eye on it.

4) Couldn't find what to 'remove' for the cd/dvd issuse.

Umm - OK not all MS fault - but then again if you keep changing the drivers for each version of OS you write and don't wait for the main other companies to have their drivers ready before you release you are doing yourself no favours. Give me XP any day at the moment.
Why should I have to put up with a system that doesn't work in many fundemental ways - sound/restart/dvd writing and I've had at least 4 blue screens already. Now the restart/dvd issue MIGHT BE a h/w one of course - but I don't know how to tell at the moment.

To be fair, no-one is forcing you to use Vista, many people hold off on brand new OS's for the very reasons you list as problems.
I got a brand new system last week, XP SP2 is purring along fine.

Ok true up to a point but I was told that I could only get the new PC from Novatech with Vista preinstalled not XP preinstalled - Is that not true.....?

I will probably put XP on as well anyway as there are so many issues...Just rather annoying...and I think it is fair to expect a new system to work in all ways....if you bought a dvd player and it didn't play cd's (when it was supposed to) would you be completely happy?

There are infinite ways a pc could be configured with vista and any number of peripherals, a dvd player only has a finite number of different discs it can be tested with.
Anyway, I was only pointing out that despite what MS say, Vista is still being developed, I'm steering clear until it's far more stable and workable.
I can understand if you wanted a specific sytem and it only came with Vista, but I would be tempted to stick XP on it anyway.
You have my sympathies, I was lucky in that I had only a small component failure causing a minor problem during my entire system build and setup, I was envisaging major hassles but I was up and running in one evening.
On the flip side, my mum's laptop with everything pre-installed had hassles to do with the wireless setup so sometimes it's just luck whether you are having computing ****, or plain sailing.
