I installed my new radeon x550 today (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... ?NOV-X5525 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NOV-X5525)) on my machine only to find windows not detecting it. At first i tryed stright away to plug my monitor into it but only to get a no signal response. When booting it up on my on boards grahics windows didnt notice any thing about any new hardware but i tryed to install the driver any way but it didnt work because it didnt find the hardware. What is wrong? Was there any wire needed when puting it in my machine (ive never installed a pci-e)?
thanks!!!!

have you got onboard graphics?
if so enter the bios screen and turn it off first.

"Graphics Integrated Intel Extreme based controller plus PCI Express x16 slot Supports up to 64MB shared system memory"
copied from the spec page, onboard graphics card.

Thanks for getting back to me,
I have tried to find a setting for disabling the onboard graphics in the bios but could only find a PEG setting. I enabled PEG and this did seem to disable the onboard graphics but made my CPU beep strangely when it tried to boot, with no signal being picked up by the monitor from the X550. I've tried another newer monitor and this made no difference.
I've also tried uninstalling the drivers for my onboard graphics and that didnt make any difference; so, I disabled the onboard graphics in device manager and still windows does not detect my x550 card, nor does my monitor detect any signal from the card at boot.
Does this sound like a faulty card or motherboard ?
Could be either... I would lean towards it being the gfx card, but not by much. Did you get them both from Novatech? Have you got another gfx card you can use for testing?

Yep, I got both the barebones and gfx card from Novatech.
I haven't got another PCI-E card for testing, nor have I another motherboard with a PCI-E slot so I can't test either myself.
The only other thing I haven't mentioned is that the X550 seemed to seat in rather easily; compared to installing a ATI AGP card in my brothers machine (I have'nt installed a PCI-E before). Only a small amount of pressure was required to seat my X550. I guess this doesn't help diagnose my problem as it could be the PCI-E slot being faulty or the card itself.
Shall I send the card back ? How do I go about doing so ?
Thats normal for pcie - much easier :)
