Have just bought Novatech's MB222946 and it has two power sockets on board:
a) the 24-pin one (and a 20/24 cable was provided)
b) an 8-pin one - my PSU has only the extra 4-pin connector.
What to do anyone? I haven't seen a PSU withe the extra 8-pin UNLESS this is the new L-type.
Info please
Johno
It will run fine on the 4 pin connection.

If the motherboard has a connection for an 8 pin it will require you to connect it as it may not get enough power

Pete, it will run fine. The 8pin 12v connector is for Quads, and they even run fine until about 3GHz when you OC them I have been told. Then they need the extra power source for the extra stability.

It depends on the motherboard, the majority use it only for the Quad however some motherboards like mine (Asus Striker) use it for other applications, usually to cover the spikes. If you have the option to connect it I would.

Thank you all.
Using the 4-pin works and the board starts AS LONG AS NOTHING ELSE PLUGGED IN !!
ie fans, disks.
My PSU can't cope with the overall load so need a meatier one.
Thanks again

I never reported back but just to confirm that a meatier PSU solved the problem.
Thanks all.

the 8 pin motherboard connector is known as the EPS connector for those looking for new power supplies.

Do Novatech PSU's really come with only one SATA power connector? I've just ordered a new computer and a 650 Novatech power supply and I know you can buy molex to SATA power adapters, but it seems a bit silly a 650 W PSU would come with only one SATA power connector and 4 normal 4pin molex conectors. I mean, everything is SATA these days, one would expect more SATA connectors and less of the old ones. RIght?

Personally i think it is a bit silly to spend good money on buying a new computer and then compromise it by buying a cheap generic branded psu,.
The psu is one area where you do not skimp on cost.
Novatech stock plenty off good Quality branded psu"s, at very good prices that will give you the connections you need and will be safer for your computer.
But as the old saying goes, it you pay peanuts then you get monkeys.

First of all no name PSU's arent as bad as ppl make them to be. I had one before and it served me for years with no problems
Second why buy a 50 punds PSU for a basic office computer??
Thirdly I don't get why a new 650 W PSU would have 4 molex connectors and only 1 SATA. I mean you always have an optical drive on SATA and a SATA HD don't you? So that means 2 SATA connectors would be very logical. Right? At least in the year 2010

why buy a 650W for an office computer? a branded 400W will do the same job, but a lot better and there's much less risk of it breaking taking the HDD and all your work down with it
